Is there a reason for your dog's name?

I went to breeder with my mind set on a different male dog. We talked a while and they told me the one I was looking at should really be a apartment small yard dog super chill quit happy to just lay around
Not what I wanted
They brought out their choice more active pup now I had two pups in front of me playing with mom out in there yard

showing them some pictures of my other two dogs on my property swimming and diving in my pond

father said to his son go get another pup awe dad really yes he belongs on property like this guy has one they where going to keep

so now I have 3 pups I hate changing my mind but I went with their recommendation the last pup

They asked what are you going to call him I said Zest
Great name for a GSP how did you come up with that name. I said I was just wishing I would have wore my vest brrr

Murf after the breeder Bruce Murphy. The vet wanted his full name on his paper work, so there he goes by Papa Murfy😂
 
My wife and I will only get females. We’ve got an iPhone list of names for future dogs. All are “old lady” names. The three dogs have been Maggie, Margie/Marge, and Josephine or Josie for short. I guess I’m partial to old ladies, I dunno. I like human names for dogs, as sometimes the name can become entertaining in comparison to the personality.
 
My crazy uncle who tormented me as a child but also helped introduce me to bird hunting, motorcycles, and chewing tobacco had an awful bird dog named cleaver. He ate more pheasant we shot than the family did. My oldest dog a weim has the name as an attempt to right a wrong.
 
Current dogs
Bella - daughter liked pitch perfect movie and short for Bardon Bella's.
River - we live next to two awesome trout river and my wife liked Rivers from My Dog Skip.
Remi - short for Remington Arms.
Vera - named by the breeder.
 
1st lab when I was growing up was a black lab, named Yedo. No idea where my father came up with that name.
My 1st lab, a chocolate, I named Drake, born 2002, before that became a popular name. Thought it fitting for what was to become a large, strong duck dog.
My current lab is named Odin, born 2016, before that became a popular name. Odin is a Norse god with many associated meanings. He is also the father of Thor in the Marvel Universe. Seemed like a pretty cool, solid name.

Sounds like the names of my kids and mother. Throw in a Rose, Angela, Francis, and Genevieve and it would be perfect!
 
One of my girl dogs is named after the 2nd prettiest woman I had a one-night stand with in my early 20s ... just don't tell my wife that. The most gorgeous women on that not so long (OK - short list) list has met my wife a few times because she is a best friend of a good friend's wife. That name remains off limits - sad because it would be a great bird dog name.

Another girl dog is named after my HS crush that I was too shy to ask out.
