Is it Saturday yet?

I am extremely anxious to get out there and shoot some birds on Saturday. It may be a little warm, according to the forecast.

It actually seems like there may be a decent number of birds and that a fair sized chunk of the corn will be picked.

I wouldn't get too excited about a lot of crops being harvested yet. As of October 4th only 4% of the corn crop had been harvested. The next report is due Monday, tomorrow and I suspect it will have gone up some, but it will be a few weeks (good weather dependent) before you see large percentage harvested. Still just getting out on the opener will be a good time regardless. Good luck.

They have not picked any corn by me. But I can blast a couple pen roosters training anyway.:D I do plan on a short walk or two with my full time hunting dog. A couple more events with the other two then give her heck after that. Then the hiding spots will dwindle for them. I have seen a few up by the pen the past couple days. And hear some, but have seen way more groups of hens.

I called some relatives out west where we hunt and they said locally they have been harvesting corn for 4-5 days.

Yep corn started today around me. I did see 2 roosters fly across the yard in the back this morning. They came from the tree rows and glided across the new dirt field to the corn, cackling the whole way. I will have to see if Lady can shorten the life span of one Sat.:D

WoW !! the farmers have really been at it in the last week. Crop harvest update as of October 18th.

Harvested Corn = 47%
Harvested Beans = 96%

If this weather continues to hold, the bulk of the corn may be out by the deer opener.

Statewide harvest update as of October 24th.

Corn harvested = 77%
Beans = 99%

Looks like another week and she might be all wrapped up. Many areas I'm hearing about may already be completely done.

I was in northern Watonwan/southern Brown counties today and would say that over 90% of corn and 99% of beans are out in that area. Lots of birds moving today once the sun came out so hopefully we'll have another good hunt tomorrow.
