Iowa Has CRP but No Birds....Why?

don't waste precious time, drive straight to SD! :thumbsup:

I hope Iowa figures it out. I cannot tell you over the last 5 years how many people have come from Iowa due to fact that the bird numbers have declined so much.

One of the longest standing groups at my camp (9 years) used to stop and hunt with a farmer in Iowa and then come on to my place. Now they just skip Iowa and bring their farmer friend with to hunt at my place.

I don't care what state it is it is a very simple formula:

HABITAT=>BIRDS NUMBERS=>PHEASANTS HUNTERS

Last fall I saw more Iowa, Nebraska, and Kansas license plates in SD then ever before. I'm guessing that won't be the case this season with a bump in bird numbers within those states:confused:. We'll see.

I hope they all go to SD. It's been nice that so many icefishermen have started going straight to SD and ND. Now if the bird hunters will too that would be great.

i hunt way away from say mitchell platte & chamberlain areas of south south dakota it draws alot of non residents from the above mentioned states plus WI MO IL lots of motels & ez base camping outta them areas + pierre...

I don't know. I've spoke to a few who are heading back to Iowa for the first time in a few years. You may be right though. I don't think any other state has the numbers SD does this year. We'll see.

OK,
It is well known that SD has fabulous bird populations but lets just look at some simple numbers:

SD population is roughly 853,175
Iowa is 3.642 times that
Kansas is 2.9 times that
Nebraska is 2.2 times that
Minnesota is 6.4 times that
Heck, Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill (RDU) area in NC :eek: is 2.39 times the SD population.

So shear numbers of adjoining states will drive up the amount of those plates you see in SD. If any of the adjoining states had the bird numbers that SD had, percentage wise you would not see nearly as many out of state plates.

Just saying....
