My 1 year old has injured the first toe on his front foot.It is the inside toe, and after a hunt he can't put weight on it much.I had it rayed,it has a broken bone in toe.Anybody had any experience with this?
The toenail is sprayed out at a 45 degree angle. Its usually only sore for a while, then he walks normally and can run.
Yes,I'm taking him in tomorrow.I have not let him hunt in several days.He went through,30 days of no activity already. Then I let him hunt, and he reinjured it.Probably take your veterinarian’s advice to avoid long term complications. Post a pic.
It's very sore after hunting. He may be in the ir again. He loves to hunt.Dang.Sounds painful
I agree,he may be finished for the season. It just destroys me to leave him in the car.I understand your frustration but you are right to take the full time to let him heal.
You don't want to have long term complications.
Goose that sucks having to put a dog on the bench, especially when young.I agree,he may be finished for the season. It just destroys me to leave him in the car.
Yes,I have a feeling not hunting and leash activity is the plan.Goose that sucks having to put a dog on the bench, especially when young.
Yes, I have a feeling he's going to be ok with rest and treatment. It may take several months. Thanks for input. My nephew had a black lab break a middle toe on a front foot. They ended up amputating it.
I hope yours can heal up on it's own.
Yes, it's very depressing. It looks like the problem may be on top of the foot.Goose that sucks having to put a dog on the bench, especially when young.
It seems like a possible bone chip on top of his foot. The toe seems ok.he hasn't hunted in 10 days.I agree no longer term injury.I had a lab break a toe bone at 4 years old. She lived to 14. It would heal then rebreak. It was at the base of the toe so the vet didn't want to amputate. She lived with it, but if you can, get your pup healed up now. It's not worth the long term pain to the dog if you want to push hunting him now.
She had to consult a specialist in Billings. She said no activity other than dumping mud. What did the vet say?
