Can’t you just downsize the type of hunt? The cover? The distance? The hours? I’ve taken to hunting “micro covers” the past few years…much fun! More productive by far! Easier on me and the dogs! Easier to recover the birds!

Somewhere on here was a post about a guys 90 something year old neighbor that had his bird dog recently die.

When asked if he was getting another one “nah, it just hurts too much when they pass and I don’t think I could handle losing another one”.
 
Was thinking I was done a while ago. Last year couldn’t hit squat. So got new gun and glasses, practiced a bunch. This year could hit better, but the numbers sucked in my traditional range, I mean really sucked. However the last move to a new area got decent numbers and the dogs really did their job. Good for another year now and just contacted a breeder about another pup in a couple years. Nothing like 30 years ago but Medicare keeps buying me new parts so off I go.
