got a strict warning- and the message is clear- I asked Web guy to remove my user information- I'm not a member anymore

because- I have never used shock collars- and I don't feel a dog that needs a shock collar on while hunting is a good dog- unless you can remove it and go afield with a good dog- course I've always been willing to show what a non shock collar dog is like- and in the field alongside a non shock collar good dog- if yours can handle and has maners- when you take that shock collar off- then it is a good dog- no manners- you leash that dog- I've known quite a few who wouldn't even open the the back end- because others were making sure the shock collars were on and working

you got a good dog - go hunting with someone who has a good dog and doesn't have a shock collar on all the time- otherwise- stick to your own kind- it's not in the class of good dogs- and definately not in the class of top Dogs

don't run with good dogs- especially when you talk of how good your dog is-

outta here- no fun whatsoever when you can't even say and stand by what you believe-- bleeding heart liberals- right

hey Shadow,
You miss the point entirely. Your nonstop bullshit about attacking people we are tired of. Other than that I can't understand what point you make.... which is not much. I for one am glad you are out of here and good for the moderators. It is about time.:thumbsup:

shadow... remember this...

my dad has used whistles for years.. a few times our 10 year old black lab whos the king of the guiding dogs out of 20 for a lodge... a few times he ignored commands... put a shock collar on him... and never was shocked.. but didnt like the collar at all.. so he behaved.. because he KNEW if he did something bad.. he'd be shocked.

now.. remember, dogs can NOT talk to us, nore can we tell them to go to their rooms and think about what they did wrong... come on... e-collars are a tool to correct a behavior..

PLEASE dont tell me you smack your dog bc you refuse to use a e-collar to correct your dog. thats more in humane than a e-collar. even TOP professional trainers use e-collar.

stop being a hippy and get in with the modern world. if your KID disobeys you.. do you spank him? (thats the same as using a e-collar on a dog) or do you just yell at him and hopefully he understood english? ive seen stubborn dogs that totally dont listen.. why? theyve never been corrected or never used a e-collar and thats the number one leading reason why dogs go missing in fields. i couldnt tell you how many dogs go missing.

that is the WORST arguement you just posted. glad youre going. dont let the door hit you on the way out.

Your post is confusing as well. If I understand you correctly, your dad put a collar on a 10 yr old dog that had not been collar conditioned. Thats how I read it. A dog has to be collar conditioned for it to understand what it is being corrected for. Slapping a collar on a dog to correct a behavior is only going to confuse the dog.

dog has been on a whistle training. once he ignored a long period of whistle commands.. dad slipped on a collar (didnt shock him) but abe, the black lab, knew if he ignored again, he'd be shocked.. and he didnt bc he didnt want to be shocked.. fixed the problem and went on without a collar til he died of a heart attack.

abe has been e-collared up to when he was a year old... then after 2nd year.. hes been on whistle.. never disobeyed a command til that 10th year of abe's life... he corrected himself after dad put the collar on him.. and dad did not shock him. just a reminder and abe went on being the best hunting dog.

So explain how the dog new he would be shocked without being collar conditioned to command or whistle?

have you ever rescued a dog from a humane society thats been from an abusive owner?

just like YOU.. you remember your life time past... dogs do too. youd be amazed if you owned a dog how much they remember and obey. as a x police officer.. ive been to houses that dogs are abused or cats... they hide bc they think the next person is going to kick them as their owner has done in the past.. seriously.. you need to be around damaged dogs to understand or even dogs that are highly trained and dis obey sometimes.. you'll see tactics do work like bringing back a e-collar.

My dog always wears the collar. I have not had to nick him since the opening week. He is 3. He will usually test you at the beginning of the season and after a quick reminder he is good.

Shadow must be using the amish method of training.

my GSP will wear a GARMIN astro gps locator on her.. shes learning quick without e-collar training.. so i may not ever have to use one even though i have one from my previous dog... the garmin does not have a shocking method on it.

Disregaurd last post. I did not see the bottom where you said he had been collar conditoned as a pup. My bad.

no problem. all the labs that go through the training are e-collared trained but will gradually go to whistles since the owner of the lodge does not like shocking methods but understands for pup training to the first year of the dog's life. after that is strictly whistles unless the dog completely disobeys..

Abe's first hour of hunting went good til the afternoon, he got worst and would not respond to any command as come here, go left, go right or stop... nothing would work.. even yelled abe come... and wouldnt do it.. eventully dad told the hunters to stop walking.. abe came back... so then dad had to put him on a leash til he got back to the truck and slipped on a collar.. after that he listened to every command.

I rarely ever use my collar in the field for a correction. But my dog always wears it. I think of it as insurance should a command not be followed such as healing back to the truck when cars are passing by. Better safe than sorry.

Positive reinforcement is a great thing but there has to be correction as well. And the collar is a great tool for it.

FareThee Well to a Closed Mind.

If someone wants to do somehing differently than another, fine.
I for one do not make a habit of cutting down anothers ways if they
are different from what I do.

How in the hell can you say a dog is good or bad if you have not seen this dog work?

I got a kick out of shadow though. I wonder if he even believed everything he posted?
