I predict .....

that with 300 less Growing Degree Days than last year at this time and lots of wet ground yet to be planted that this years harvest will be slower than 2009. Remeber two years ago? Everyone complaining about crops still in the field. Get ready because it is going to be a repeat.

Yep, I remember. Colorado didn't have corn out until mid December. It didn't bother me much though because it translated into really good bird numbers in January when most of the hunters weren't out. I also wondered if it helped contribute to our FANTASTIC bird numbers this past season...I like to think so.

I predict the Kansas upland forecast will say there's so many birds, that pheasants have resorted to perching on high wires for space, even though I expect similar or slightly less numbers than last year. :D

It happens, sometimes--

People are still planting corn up here.
I don't see much chance of ripe corn. Reckon their dreaming of $10 corn.
Oh Yeah! that Winter standing corn is great for pheasants.:)

Not many fields have been planted in the Red River Velley as of yet. At least around the Fargo/Moorhead area. Farmers have had many years where crops were not in the ground by Memorial weekend, but still managed to get a full harvest done by November. Its not what is happening now thats going to affect this falls harvest, they'll just plant a shorter variety of bean or corn seed. What will matter will be what type of weather we get thru Sept and Oct.

Thats true if guys go to shorter day corn. The guys that already have it in the ground are almost a month behind in GGD compared to last year. Thats time that will have to be made up at the end of year short of something odd happening.

Since Wildcat beat me to the KDWP Forecast. I am predicting floods across Colorado, with the snow pack at 247% of average. It is almost June and 85 degrees could happen anytime and when that happens it's coming down all at once!!!! Well, at least 85 for a week!! You all know what I am saying!!! P.S. I live on a hill for a reason!!!

KDWP can say what they want, my own survey is all i need to know....i think birds will be down this year, due to the drought and wheat-bust.

I get a chuckle out of it every year... it's better than the funnies in the paper! :D

And I partially agree with you. Depends on how much comparable nesting there is next to where the wheat should be. But, in most cases it's not much, especially in pivot irrigated ground, unless there happens to be a golden field of CRP across the street (and no, not the 6' high crap nobody takes care of :)).
