Hug for dog for me today

I have a 10 yo lab who has an enlarged heart. He is on meds and does great and even hunted this year. It was a beautiful day today in western Montana. My wife and I took him and my pup to the park. They were running like crazy but I was not overly concern. I looked up and Max was laying in the path. It has happened twice but he has recovered very quickly with rest. His cardiologist told me he will never drop dead but you may need to let him recover if he over does it. This was different. He was doing the agonal death breathing out but not in. I poked his eyes and no blinking. I told my wife he is dead. She was hysterical. I started chest comprensions for a minute and then blew hard into his nose. He sneezed, so I poked his eye again and he blinked. I told my wife to run as fast as she could to get the truck and drive it down the path blowing the horn and lights. She said you go back with the pup and I do it and I will stay with Max. As I left Max stood up and stumbled towards me. I went back and hugged him crying. After 15 minutes he was able to walk out. Of course his cardiologist office was closed but we will be there soon. He might be down to leash walks but we still have him. So please give us prayers and hug your dogs tonight. It felt good for me to write this to people who love their dogs. Thank you ❤️

Gave all 4 of mine a hug! Your family and Max will be in our thoughts. I'm glad he is still with us!

Only love you can buy. You will probably have to increase meds and decrease activity. Max is not ready to leave you. Enjoy your time.
Indian quote “We never really die, we just move to another world” God bless

2Point, I am so sorry to hear this. Nothing but prayers and best wishes for you and your family.

I had a female black lab several years ago have a Grand Mal seizure in the middle of a pheasant hunt. It was the first of many she would have in her lifetime, that day scared the wits out of me I thought she surely would die. Was able to manage them pretty well later. Best wishes for your dog.

Our sweet special Max went over the rainbow bridge yesterday. He had a massive heart attack and was gone really fast. He had a happy day prior to this on a trail for a lovely walk in the sun and has always had an active and loved life! Every night of his life he was cuddling us on the bed and knew he was loved! ♥️😢

I just talked to Maxs cardiologist and he said sometimes dogs with enlarged hearts can get an irregular or premature heartbeat that can come and go. If it hits at a certain time it shuts off the electrical flow to the heart and death is instant. He said there really isnt anything that could have been done. It was his time and he didnt suffer. Boy are we going to miss him. ❤️❤️❤️❤️

Sorry for your loss never easy, but know Max will always be with you.

I’m so sorry for your loss! He looks like a good happy dog in those pics and was lucky to have you and your wife!
They worm their way into your heart and never live long enough! I think I have cried harder when we’ve lost dogs than when relatives have died.

My young lab and I had a therapy day and went to the refuge for a long walk. She pointed some pheasants and I jumped them. But we know labs don't point. 😃 I hope tonight young Hattie is tired and doesn't go room to room looking for Max and whining. I think she is getting the idea he is gone. It was sad when I went by the duck hunting parking lot and looked out in the distance at all of the duck blinds. I have several Max stories for every one. We did top off the day with lunch at a hutterite cafe/grocery store that makes the best sandwiches, and then another long walk through the refuge. I retired 3 years ago and have just spent so much time with my dogs, it is a big part of my life. I hunted with them 72 times last year. Even if it was a quick jump shoot or walk in the grouse woods, a morning over decoys on the river.

I think also with Maxs passing I think of my own mortality. I am 64 and have been a diabetic since I was 18. Still okay health wise but that could turn. In the next couple years my wife and I will be talking another puppy, maybe my last one. That seems crazy as hell. Thanks, this will be last venting session. Lol
