How Pheasants in NE SD Wintered

I know I reported previously that it was a tough winter in NE South Dakota. Well, maybe the birds did better than expected. I took my 4 month old Brittany out to a public area today to run her and get some exposure to birds. We walked one quarter section for about an hour and a half and probably saw 300-400 birds. Maybe more. It was really great to see. My little Brittany was getting so much scent. She is still trying to figure out what it all is. Snapped a picture of her on point with my cell phone.

That's great news that the birds were able to make it through the rough winter. I sure do envy your access to wild birds for training your pup. I have a 5 month old lab and we have hit some public land here in Michigan a few times but only put up a couple birds each trip. Can't wait to get him out to SD this fall. That is a very nice looking pup you have...she looks ready to hunt.
