How much bigger?

My six month old brittany, Junie, weighed 26 pounds at the vet last week. Just wondering, I can't remember, how much do they usually grow after the six month mark? I was thinking she should be nearly grown by now, but maybe My memory of past dogs is getting a little fuzzy. So fuzzy I forgot to ask the vet while we were there.... She's going to be a little dog anyway, I think, but I was wondering if any of you could speculate. Thanks.

Mojo probably gained more than 10 lbs after 6 months

He was a year old before he was full grown.

Hmmmm. she's either going to be bigger than I thought, or maybe they misquoted her weight at the appt. I was hoping for the bottom end of the breed standard. Just personal taste, no good reason...

For what it's worth, the AKC's weight spec on Brits is 30 - 40 pounds. Sounds like she'll end up in the AKC sweet spot.

Yeah, I was hoping for 30#. There is just something about seeing a little bitty dog bringing back a big old rooster that sticks right in my brain and melts my heart. Maybe it is because it reminds me of a puppy's first retrieve or something like that. Or maybe I just admire the effort and perseverance it takes for a little dog to bring in a big bird.

Daisy was probably 6 months old and not quite 40# when she brought back her first Canada goose, a BIG old 12# bird. The mental picture of it still makes me smile 4 years later.

Besides, little dogs take up less space in the recliner...

I seem to always have a camera- inside vest pocket is right handy- right side- there have been a couple times I have the camera in left hand and gun in right- gets right interesting

course some would be upset if I was to say "hold up, I want a picture"

just sort of put it up for Toad- she is 31lbs and the rooster was very much alive

She was 26 pounds at 6 months not 4 months. Do you remember what she was at 4 months?

Looking at the Dame and Sire will give you a good idea some times too.

I was basing my comment on Charles saying that Mojo gained 10+ pounds after the 6 month mark. Either way, I'm headed back to the vet next week to get the stitches out, so I guess I can see if they have her 4 month weight listed in their records. I know she was in for shots around that time.

Her parents were traditional looking brits, and not real big. Sometimes you see britts that are tall and skinny(compared to others), but her parents were not like that. The breeder thought she would probably be right around 30# full grown.

@ Shadow- Yes, that is the image I want to see over and over and over next season! Seeing that in person, I would have my head in the clouds the rest of the hunt.

9 weeks- 1st hunt bird

wonder if you could post a picture of your 6 month Britt and current weight-
might give us a clearer picture of what her final lean weight might be

Toad- I think she'd hunt for you- might not bring the rooster to you- could just take her- I'd try to get her, you on the flush, and her bringing it back- who knows- a trick my nephews tried was to carry and sneak one of mine a treat or few- kind of like- sneak treats and it'll hunt for me

I caught on- following morning as we'd unload I'd go "ok, each pick a dog, do the walking in, shooting, and keep up"

got quite the picture- 2nd day of a 4 day hunt- one was wore out- we took a lunch break- he layed down and held that dog- said "well stay here and catch up with you" as we walked away- quite a struggle- he couldn't hold the dog- he joined us- short of was- that afternoon he shot a triple on a covey rise-
I sent a few blowups to them- quite an enjoyable time- couple of them came down a few times for repeat hunts following falls

one talked me into coming up there as he wanted to pay me back with a 5 day Layout Boat Hunt- one got even with me on a Colorado pack in Elk hunt

got another for you Toad- actually 2- went out with all 4 for a couple hour walk- really have to laugh- she pointed it- Shadow over ran the bird- she grabbed

Shadow pointed- she got there first- pretty good hunt with a few hen points and quite a few pictures

How accurate is this double at 4 months theory... it is starting to make me nervous Ox is 4 months old now... and he weighs 33#

Well, his dad Buckley is a big boy, so it may not be too far off.
I will bet Buckley is close to 60#.

You are going to go through some food :D
