How many times have pattered your shotgun?

How many time have you patterned your shotgun and loads?

How many times have you pattered your shotgun and load on a paper target with measured distance, pellet count, choke, loads, Etc?
 
Probably in the 5-10 category but the patterning board is just a starting point, you need to use the load on game to get the rest of the storey. The patterning board shows us whats going on when all the shot reaches the target but the fact is thats not how it works in the real world save for maybe turkey hunting.
 
I'm in the 5-10 group, I reckon, but I tend to stick with the same loads once I find the ones that perform well, but I have done this with multiple shotguns.
 
1-5. I got the loads I like, and work as bird killing knock outs with no way for possible improvement in my gun. So thats where it will stay.:thumbsup: No need to try any more patterning or other loads. I have 2 light loads that work good, and 2 heavier pheasant loads. If I were smart though, I would have ordered two of the same chokes once I was done. My Cortona performs best with the 1 choke in either tube. So I wished I had the same one in both. Not a big dif, but it's there. Now I cant get them. And I do not want to play with a bunch of spendy aftermarket chokes, that will not do any better. Been there done that.:D I guess it would depend on the gun though. I found it easier to take the load I like and just find where the gun likes it. If it does not then I would try something else I spose.
 
I reload a lot of what I shoot and am always trying some new load in one or the other of my guns. Retired summer days often get long and reloading something new and testing it for possible use in the duckblind or field is a great way to pass the time and possibly happen upon the utopia of loads:)

I voted never. I have patterned shotguns in the past, but not my current gun. The pattern must be good though. I shoot it better than any gun I've had before.

I voted 10 but my main shotgun gets used for grouse,pheasants,waterfowl,turkeys,predators and more.

To get as good performance out of a gun as I can for that wide range of gunning I believe putting it on paper is needed. Plus I enjoy it and you never know what you'll find out.
 
What this poll tells me. There's a lot of people who choose the load they are shooting by results from hunting or"from purely what they have read or been told .

I know people who think patterning a gun means shooting at a Lilly pad on the water of a slew. That showed them everything they think they needed to know.
