How many pheasants, and quail will hunters harvest in Kansas this year?

some people just don't know when to stop running their mouth or the facts get lost in their whatever size brain they have. the law says a possession limit in kansas of 16 birds, nowhere does it say how many a person can shoot over the length of a season nor does it say ya can't hunt ne. co, or wy, all just a short drive, maybe if you learned to hunt you wouldn't feel so left out but then maybe you wouldn't know the difference

Even if you shot possession limits from all those places it still does not add up to 96 birds there guy.

I'm not sure how you figure he was over his limit. It would be very easy to stay under possession as well with only 96 birds over a period of 2.5 months. I say "only" like I regularly shoot that many. Not! I've not shot 96 pheasants in my entire life! But, I'm not a pheasant hunter either.

pheasant limits

the guy still doesn't get it. no where did i say i had 96 birds in possession, i said i harvested 96 birds, ever try eating one in between hunts, just to make you feel even worse, 96 birds for me in a season is not nearly a high nor is it for lots of hunters that don't spend their days in cafe's or bars hunting beaver. anyway, as you live in colorado and if you hunt there, ya never have to worry about it anyway, just won't happen.

i think we are tied on the phez britt but i do have you crushed on the quail the great hunter that i am :D

We guys have me beat, no pheez killed in KS this year in 10 days of hunting. I went from having one the best years last year to the worst so for. The cover we have to hunt is very limited this year and every time we hunt its warm and windy but still having a good time. We only kill pointed birds so we have had flushes in gun range but did not shoot. Used to hunt a lot more but with 2 kids playing high school basketball my love to see them play over takes my hunting but we are going to squeeze in about another 10 days of hunting and even if I never shoot my gun this year I feel blessed to able to do what I love and its always a joy to get out and get some walking in. I just feel sorry for the dogs.

My thoughts on the season,

First you previously implied and really made it sound as if you shot 96 birds in KS some where between St. Francis and Norton last season, then you back tracked and claimed it was in different states. Now you are implying you eat one between hunts well I guess every other day practically if you shot 96 legally supposedly. Bud I hunt the same places you do and not just CO and know the laws in each state. You keep implying you are the greatest as you don't spend your days in bars chasin beaver. Dude I am a pheasants forever member and do lots of volunteer work in different states even. Where do you get off assuming I am a drinker that hangs out in bars or the rest of the people on here? What a loser. Saw you just joined this site this month. Maybe crawl back under the rock you came from would ya?

tough hunting

zeepo, like your post, appreciate the attitude about the kids, mine left long ago, all hunted. had to look up desoto, you seem to be in the same boat as the guy that lives in olatha, think to find more than just a few birds ya might have to go at least to the smith center area or plainsville. ya at least used to be in pretty big quail numbers. wish you luck, i am leaving for the atwood area in the morning and am hoping for some fresh snow, will take a break and shoot a turkey, i see far more turkey than pheasants but doing pretty well on pheasants though, went 15 straight with my 14 ga.

bird numbers

bird buster, maybe you ought to get a job or learn to read. i did shoot 96 birds in kansas last yeas and never went over my possession limit, i also shot a few in wyo, and colorado, i have a hard time understanding why this is so hard for you, but then you can't even stick to the subject. i'm not too far from you maybe you should wave as you go by. if you were to take a poll you just might find out that your own harvest was pathetic and lots of serious hunters out there make my totals look small

Bird Buster 16 is your possession limit. That is birds in your possession. That doesn't in any way mean you can't shoot several possession limits a year. I have shot around 100 pheasants each year the last several in Kansas and never went over my daily limit or my possession limit. I'm not going to get the 25 or 30 days in hunting this year, nor have I shot any daily limits unlike last year and the 2 or 3 previous where I hunted at least 25 days every year and limited almost every day. I'm in no way trying to brag, I'm just trying to understand where you are coming from.

I usually hunt around 12 days per season and my all time best is 24 roosters. I'm worried about when I retire and have more days to hunt!! Having to eat 100 pheasant in a year makes me almost throw up in my mouth.:) Phez are like trout to me; I like them from time to time but not that ofter and my wife would hide my shotguns if I started bring home that many "nasty things".

You don't have to eat them all, although my family and I eat most of them. I also give some of them to friends and family. I also give some to landowners I hunt on. We also have a pheasant fry in one of my friends shed in Ness City, and I fry a bunch up and we invite the neighbors over. I shot 10 a couple weeks ago, and my family and I have already finished them off. I'm going out tomorrow to shoot some more. I'm taking 2 friends with me and I will give them all the birds. I will go back out next week and shoot some more. BTW my family and I really like to eat them. The point I was making is, you aren't limited to 16 a year, like one of the posters above seems to think.

Not trying to get into the frey; just a little light harted pheasant humor. My wife would love it if I gave away all the birds I shoot and all the trout I catch. One time she even hid some birds under some other stuff and 8 months later "had" to throw them out because they weren't good anymore.

My wife was like that when we first got married. Now she likes pheasant as well as a lot of other wild game she wouldn't eat. My kids love all of it because they have eaten since they had teeth. I usually cook most of the wild game. I fry pheasant, grill it, grind it up and make pheasant salad sandwiches, pheasant and noodles, boil it and then melt cheese over the top with picante sauce. I'm kind of like the guy in Forrest Gump with shrimp.

I like them fried just fine, but we frequently smother them and those are fantastic. Cut them in strips that match the smaller inner muscle of the breast. Roll in flower and brown them. Next, put them in a baking dish and smother under an equal mix of milk and cream of chicken soup. Bake for about 45 minutes covered. I like it with either mashed potatos or rice. You can use the gravy on those. Veggies and bread of choice and I could repeat that several times a week. It will sure help keep you under the 16 bird threshhold!

Bird Buster,

Don't get too worked up over internet braggers. Their stories always seem to be so great but we never actually know the truth. I love how the stories change once someone gets questioned!!!!!!

If anyone needs help getting rid of their pheasants so as to not exceed the possesion limit let me know and I might be able to offer some assistance.

Me too! Sounds like you could offer your "excess" birds up to any of several on the site.

I wish I had half the birds I gave away in my youth, before I met my wonderful wife and she quickly learned how to cook them. I got lucky with my lady, she actually prefers wild game over anything else. The kids will fight over the last pheasant nugget these days:thumbsup:

lol or when you ask them to take you and you get silence or even pm them and still silence that tells me real quick what i need to know ;)

Kansas estimates a harvest of around 575,000+/- last year, so I think I was high on the total, this year. A little lower even though the quail were better able to handle the drought.
