i've done most of it myself, but last month went to my first navhda training day and they helped me with alot and straightened me out on some things that i thought were the right way to do them, i will try to go to every monthly training day because these guys know alot and have went through what i'm doing and can help me not make so many mistakes and do it the right way.

How do I find my local Chapter because I could use some help on simple stuff like uh "come", "heel" :) Really I suck at training well maybe not me but getting my family to be consistant

Mostly myself, I did spend 50 bucks for birds and 1 1/2 hours with a trainer to figure out what I needed to work on. You will need to incorporate a buddy to help with certain training needs.

Dog Training

Did it myself.

I checked 'trained by self'; however, my son who trains dogs helped. I need to give him credit.

Recon if your asking about navhda go to their web site and you can find a chapter near you.

I still live at home so Dad and I trained our French Brittany up and I think he's pretty good. Got a 6 month old dd now that is starting to understand whoa, come, and sit. Its not really that hard to teach a dog commands.

As far as training them in the field we just run em on the wild pheasants, grouse, and woodcock that live in Wisconsin and let em figure it out from there. Seems to work good and he is every bit as capable in the field as professionally trained dogs we've hunted with.

Did it all myself.

Over 30 years of training myself. However,I have trained with some of the best Pro's in the country to get plenty of ideas. So thats help. And we all help each other out at club training. Gunning etc. Never have sent a dog away. Most any training you can learn at a club. In some way, I would say they have trained me over the years. They showed me how they react, And now it is like I can read situations before things happen.

I only did the whoa, retrieve, and come commands myself. All of my young dogs have picked up pointing and honoring by watching/hunting beside the experienced dogs. I'd be in trouble if I ever let my kennel run dry. I think it would be very challenging for a guy like me to teach a young dog to point.

I have trained dogs in the past but with my current job working for Uncle Sam I find that I need to make the most of my year or so stays at a time in a foreign country. With that being said for the moment I send rover off to school for the simple fact that I am not able to spend the required time to train them. I also like to send them back periodically in the off season to keep them fresh and up to snuff. If given the time I would probably train them from start to finish myself. Although there is something to be said about the novice trainer and the proffessional trainer. I think when training a dog yourself you tend to take short cuts and settle for less where as from what I have saw the proffessional seems to push a little further being as this is how they earn a living. However this is not to say that the novice trainer can't turn out some outstanding dogs because I have seen it time and time again, for me though it doesn't work that well I don't think. Just my two sense.
