How big will my GSP pup get?

Just thought I'd get some opinion from some of you on my new GSP pup.I got her as a 8 week old she weighted 7lbs.,she's now almost 8 months old and weights 38lbs..When do they quit growing? Will she make 50lbs.?She seems small which doesn't matter to me,just wondering as this is my first GSP,Thanks.

I'm no expert by any means, but I think it all depends on the parentage. My girls mom was of slight build but tall, her father was the biggest GSP I ever saw. My dog weighs in at 55 lbs and has large bone structure and is fairly tall for a female. I have seen GSPs all over the size range but I think an average would fall somewhere between 40 to 50. However I have seen dogs from the mid 30ies up to 60. In my experience your dog has done the majority of its growing but you will likely see some growth through age two.

I'd say you might think of her as a pre-pubescent pup, still developing bone and with some physical changes coming along. Her chest will spring, becoming deeper (?--you'll see what I mean), and she'll get some height and length, probably for the next 6 months, then she'll build some muscle mass and by the time she is two, most likely she will have attained her adult height and about 80% of her adult healthy weight.

But...depends on the genes.

Gonna be fun. :)

I raise dogs and typically they quit their height growth by about 9 months of age. They will fill out their chests, muscle mass, etc till about 18 months. That is when you know about what your dog will weigh. Height by 9 months overall weight by 18 months. Then it depends on you as far as weight and physical fitness. If they lay around on the couch with you all winter, they will probably gain some weight.

That's not unreasonable. At 8 months she has some filling out to do yet. Most females run that 45-60 pound range in general with 60 being a pretty good sized gal.

Do you know how big the parents were? That will probably tell you more than anything else. Different lines dictate size. Typically the field trial lines are smaller and the old traditional (German type dogs) are larger.

The breed standard for males i believe is 23-25 inches at the withers and 55 - 70 lbs. Females a couple inches less and 10+ lbs less give or take.

Case in point, I have an male who falls right into the breed standard. He is 64 pounds in hunting shape and 25 inches. His mother is a couple inches shorter and 52 pounds. His sire was about the same as he, maybe a couple pounds heavier.

most females go 40-55 lbs. I've seen males up to 85 lbs. A breeder around here had a male that approached 90 with out an ounce of fat on him. The line he bred out of had some big GSP's. I had two dogs out of him. Cleo, RIP topped out just over 70 and Sadie is a solid 65 lbs.

It really doesn't matter, with one exception. Do you have a Queen or King size bed? :D:D

Geez.... are you sure he didn't mix in some Great Dane somewhere down the line?
