How are the crops looking in SD

Are the farmers looking like they might get the crops out before opining day or the first of november.

I continue to see the combines rolling in N. IL. I suspect/hope they're rolling in the Dakotas. The last couple of years the standing corn has made it tough on the opener, especially if your hunting with pointer.

I hear they are going on corn and beans in Iowa. Saw guy combining corn in Southern MN today. Wierd thing is it semms corn is on track with beans instead of behind.

We are well staged for an early harvest but a lot of rain can throw a wrench into that real quick.

Got back from Omaha today and there was a lot of guys combining on Fri. All corn.

my fields arent doing good.. its been too wet to plant corn, too wet to plant spring wheat... only thing got in was soybean and winter wheat...

that all being in Winner SD. i went home.. lots of bare land... so hunting this year is gonna suck in Winner, SD

Not really that weird. Corn maturity is determined by Growing Degree Days, we have had a lot more than normal this year. Soybean maturity is determined by photo-period length, stays the same for the most part.

No it's not. Winner is going to be just fine. I saw birds all summer long. It is going to be another great year.

Moellermd, what's Photo-period length? What determains it?
Thanks for your help:cheers:

Talked to a farmer from Carpenter SD this weekend and he said a lot of guys are combining early this year due to the weather. They had a hard rain late last week which put a stop to it.

With so many crops that got left in the field or combined late last year everyone is trying to get them out earlier so they don't have that same problem. Should lead to a good opener with a lot of birds in the sloughs, draws, and dugouts.

Was shocked to see a combine cutting corn 10 miles east of Chamberlain, SD at 1 am this morning, 9-21. So early for a change! There was also a big lightning show going on to the North at the same time. Was on my way back from a great pronghorn hunt in WY.

Their chopping Sudan Grass for silage right across the road from the lodge right now. Pheww. Glad too because i saw birds flying in there yesterday and if that was in during season it would harbor a ton of birds. I am now seeing guys combining beans and corn but not alot. Got an inch of rain last night and forecast if for 2 days of rain but the 10 day looks like 70 and solid sun after that which should get the harvest in full swing.

Ton of rain in eastern south dakota the last two days. Going to be awhile before any wheels turn. Guessing 4 inches or more and it don't disappear very fast this time of year.

Beans are coming out on the higher ground and where there is good drainage. After flooding last weekend we are supposed to have excellent drying weather for another week. My next door neighbor farms on the Big Sioux bottom and his beans are covered down there--about $80,000 worth in the bin. Don't know what he will get for insurance.
Overall a bumper perhaps record crop in my neighborhood. Now lets get it out so we can get at some birds!

In the Winner area, harvest is going much quicker than last year, there should be very little crop left in the field on the opener. Winter Wheat planting is in full swing. I don't know if all the young roosters will have full color by opener as there are still quite a few that are difficult to tell until you get a real good look.

SE SD and NW IA are starting to take out some crops the rain has held them up some.
