Here's my trip

Hitting the road bright and early, or dark and early actually for the annual huntin' trip. 8 guys, 5 dogs. Heading to Day county. First stop is a secret hot spot in Grant county. Hope they're piled up in there like last time 🤞. It's group hunting so there's naturally a few clusters throughout the trip. You just gotta take it easy and go with the flow. I'm definitely hoping to hit the spots right around Pierpont😛. For the most part we split up into groups of two or three guys, but of course there'll be a walk or two with the whole gang, mainly because someone wants to. It's all fun but the success is much better with less people. That's about it. I'll do my best to keep my buddies from too many shenanigans. Will probably do a report after the trip.

I looked for that old thread where the guy staying in Pierpont cussed me out for being a smart aleck but it probably got dusted for inappropriate language.

Good Luck Bob! I'll be South of you. Leaving at 4am for Clark, SD. Probably going to be fishing in southern Day County at some point this weekend.

Our group of 6 brought home 69 birds, we could have filled out easily but we did lose a couple cripples, we were tired, and it had been a terrific hunt a couple more birds would not make a difference. I wouldn't call it the best opener but it was close!
My dogs are smoked, the bums are so lazy they didn't even freak out at the Amazon guy today. I think we were near Pierpoint :), or was it Point Place? Ah crap I don't remember. I'm pretty sure I did cross the Jim river but not the Missouri.

Yeah I'm bummed there's so many good areas, but I don't think we'll make it to hunt near Lake Kampeska this trip. It's on my bucket list. Just like $hit house road, and bagging an early limit then watching a football game in Brookings. Oh, and some day I want to hunt the hi line out by Hilger. But I won't do that until I buy a new suburban, a high buck Italian 28, a dog trailer, and a new gucci hunting outfit from ll bean or orvis. Hell, maybe even sitka.

Wow that’s an impressive trip! Did any of those birds have holes through their noses?

Kampeska roosters are among the most elusive in the state. Some folks don't even know they exist. ;)

Hope you have a fun trip. Avoid off putting activities such as being a rube, playing grabass and paying to hunt.

I have zero issue with hunting preserves, heck I guide at them quite few times a year. I also don't pretend to never loose a cripple, or question/insult other peoples hunts.

I also don’t have an issue with hunting preserves either. Great for training dogs and getting a warm up hunt. Good for youth. Etc.
But they should be clear what they do.
I think a terrible lie is when some hunting outfitters tell you you’ll be hunting strictly 100% wild birds, and the outfitter is located in prestige South Dakota area then you get there and it’s a rooster after rooster and some just stand there 10 feet from you.
And some hunters drive or travel GREAT DISTANCES to get to that prestigious pheasant hunting location.

Sorry did I insult someone’s hunt?
If I did I didn’t mean to.
I was just curious to know if their group was getting into wild birds.
