Hello from SW Minnesota

Glad I found these forums, have been looking for a place to share stories with other hunters. Been lucky enough to get out a ton already this season with a lot of success. Not sure where everyone else is hunting in MN but it has been a great hunt so far for Toby and I. Thought I'd attach a pic of my 7 month old golden/irish setter after one of our hunts this week, too.

Hi Kal and welcome to UPH. You have found a great site. Toby is a nice looking dog.

Where are you located in SW Minn? I'll be over next week hunting near my home town of Canby with some old high school buddies.

Canby, eh? You know the Oellien's or the Baer's? I live about 20 miles from Fairmont. Hunted Pipestone/Slayton, Fulda and Windom areas late this past week with a buddy of mine and got up a good number of hens and enough roosters to give a couple of hacks a limit for the day. Hunted hard that day but its some of the best land we've got. I have a buddy who hunted the new big Pipestone piece over opener and had a lot of success. If I remember right it is 300+ acres but real nice stuff. Maybe give it a scout on your way through Pipestone on your way to Canby if you're coming from 90. Good luck

Welcome to UPH Kal, That is nice looking dog. Does it point or is it still to young to tell?........Bob

Welcome Minnesotan

Welcome to UPH and thanks for sharing your stories and the great pic.

Welcome, I hunt your neck of the woods. I helped combine and run slurry tank around Morgan Mn.

Onpoint

Welcome.
nice looking dog with a golden - setter mix will he point birds?

bob/goldeneye:
I've watched him work birds 3 ways already...
1) true point
2) straight flush
3) true "set". he will actually set all the way down on his belly and then crawl to flush... very, very fun to watch.

I guess I'll know more as the season goes on which one he "prefers"

Welcome KAL and :coolpics: nice looking dog. You duck hunt? I'm south of you in IA. Never get to hear how the hunting is around Fairmont. Maybe you could let me know:) Happy hunting.

Thanks, coot. I actually just returned from a couple of days of duck hunting in North Dakota with my brother and we did real well but not much challenge up in those parts. Don't see many ducks around my area aside from local ones and some stragglers in the late season but pheasants are plentiful just north of fairmont by Truman, Lewisville, Butterfield etc.

Kal welcome to the site its always a good time around here.
I have three dogs that look very much like yours but all are pure bred Goldens from field stock. I would guess that both breeds lineage, may share some common ancestors.

How much do yours weigh?
Kal,
between 65 and 70
The mother is best at about 63 her daughter about the same and the son will probably be closer to 70 when he is finished filling out. The pups are 17 mos old the male about 2" taller than both females.

Hi welcome from another MN hunter. I joined this summer and it has been informative and fun / talk share storyies etc. I to hunt SW MN when I can. was down in ST Peter last satuerday and dropped three with my brother. See ya in the field.:D

Kal, I think if that pup is pointing some birds, you should be able to get him staunch with some encouragement. I saw a GSP that would lay down on point when a pup. We got him to stop that, stand on his points and he turned into a good dog.

Kal, great to have you on board. I grew up in Mankato, moved to Sioux Falls for 5 years now I'm in the Twin Cities (blah).

Zeb, Canby? I've had a beer there once!
