Heavenly Day

Been spending most of days doing land prep for CRP but I got my sons dog with and just have to get her out last 2 hours of day. Went out yesterday at 3:00 and were done by 3:30. Birds in freezer by 4:00. # roosters and 3 covey flushes of quail which I did not have heart to shoot at since I'd like to see more of them around. Never thought I would see any here in my lifetime but maybe these quail buffers will help.

From a historic perspective, having hunted Charles Mix in the 1970's, used to have a real sizable quail population, some Huns too! In fact it was the mixed upland capital of the world. Sharptails , Chickens, Pheasants, Quail, doesn't get any better. I hope you get to the point of establishing U-guide quail camps! The little buggers are struggling mightly everywhere else. Be surprised if the Huns don't respond to the buffers as well. Nice to hear a success story.

Well oldandnew, we'll see what happens. We have got the habitat going in now. We had some sharpies last year but have seen none this year.

Enjoyed another limit tonight and the dog is making improvements daily. I really enjoy these end of day hunts.

Meat getting cleaned right away and put in freezer is not too bad either. I hope to start planting 60 acre of grass tomorrow and hope it comes in nice this spring for undisturbed nesting cover.
