Had a Good Day!

The wife and I moved to a different home last week so my hunting has been on hold for about 10 days. Finally got out today. It was just Elle and myself but it turned into a good day. First piece of CREP I walked produced just 1 hen. The second piece produced 5-6 hens and 1 rooster which I winged and became a runner. Got Elle in the area where it went down and it didn't take her long to track it down about 50 yds. away. Then I took an easy stroll down a section line road that had good looking cover on both sides. Half a mile later we were done. My shooting has been off lately and today was no exception. Both of the last two roosters were only winged and ran like the wind. Their problem was that they went down in a stubble field and Elle made quick work of both of them.

Excellent!

Nice work Dakotazeb!,

If you read any of my posts it is always about the dog!:) You have one to be proud of.

What I don't write about is the $$$$ for training, the miles traveled and the overnight hotel/motel costs that allow my "lady" to perform what she has been trained to do. To watch her is to marvel and share the joy she has for hunting. I sense the same when I read of your stories with your girl!:)

You are so right. It really is all about the dog. Wouldn't be in the field if is wasn't for her. Probably our biggest difference is that I have spend "zero" dollars on training. It's all natural. Even her success in the NSTRA trials. She has done it all on her own. I've just been along for the enjoyable ride. :)

And what a nice day it was. I am glad you got a chance to watch her do what she loves to do. I would be done hunting if I did not have a dog.

Enjoyed the post and pictures , the best conservation tool out there is a good dog !!!

Does Elle hunt waterfowl with you as well ?

Looks like a good day, I wouldn't be in the field without a dog......Im always amazed to watch a dog work winged birds especially in areas with a lot of bird scent. I'm hoping my pups get the hang of it over time, I do not like leaving winged birds in the field. Dollars and cents never come into play when I think about bird hunting.....nothing compares to ice hockey bills......

I quit waterfowl hunting 25 years ago. But she would probably make a good warm weather waterfowl dog. She loves retrieving from the water. Excellent swimmer.

Got this buckle when I got my first dog, I think I was 18. Little older now(56!)
P.S. Nice scatter gun!!

Keep that snow away for another 10 days please! :)

No snow in this area yet. A slight chance of a little over Thanksgiving. While others are pushing snow in the southern part of the state I mowed the grass this morning and have been washing windows on the outside. :)

good day

When it's a poor day of shooting (I know) it's nice that dogs are usually consistent. Enjoy the good days.

Define steep I'm open to offers.....tough to live in a state known for deer hunting tradition.....when all u want to do is chase pheasants.
