Gun it!

Anybody seen the show GUN IT on Versus? This week's episode seemed pretty un-sporting to me. The host is a character and the show is pretty entertaining, but probably didn't set a great example of bird hunting ethics. It was ALL about the kill #s. Getting a limit seemed to be the most important part of the hunt.

They make hunting look like a lot of fun and appealing to a younger audience, which is good... But it seemed like maybe they were sending out the wrong message.

For those who didn't see it, the show started with a party hunt for pheasants, then there was a goose hunt where they bet on which blind would kill the most, and the show ended with a crew of 6 hunters road hunting out of an RV... I was kind of on the fence from the start, but they definitely lost me when they started road hunting. Throughout the show, the host kept saying, "we won't quit until we get our limit." The body count was definitely the focus of the show.

Just wondering if anybody else saw the show and reacted the same way I did. Also, before anybody blasts me for being an "elitist", just watch the part where the "hunters" bail out of the RV and start shooting pheasants from the road.

I believe that to be a rerun of a previous show, and subject to the same scathing comentary, for the most part, on this site. I agree with you, if we have to interest and recruit new hunters based on bad behavior, more resembling some death race video game, with idiots like Benny Spies, then I hope we die out as a breed! Don't much like the perfectly quaffed South Dakota perserve hunts with wags, captains of industry, and indian chiefs, showing us unwashed low brows how to shoot pen raised birds either. To hard to film a real bird hunt, not predictable enough. I'm sure someone here will defend it, like last time. That may be the scariest off all.

I didn't realize it had been discussed before. Yes, I think it was a rerun because I only started watching the show a couple weeks ago since they have been advertising the heck out of it on Versus.

FWIW, the other episodes I saw didn't bother me like this one did. One of the episodes I watched he was hunting geese in a blizzard and everybody's guns froze. I had to give the host credit for even attempting to hunt in those conditions. I don't think I'm dedicated enough to try goose hunting in a blizzard like that...

Anyway, I just thought that the road hunting episode was sending totally the wrong message. But hey, to each their own...

I'm in complete agreement with you on this one Toad. I've never seen the episode which you speak of, but it sounds like it's definitely sending the wrong message.

"Having a hard time getting your limit in the field? Just roadhunt!"

That's blasphemy. With as lazy as America is getting though, I'm not surprised. Hunting is about enjoying the outdoors with great companionship, whether it be family, friends, or just your dog. Sure, it's called hunting for a reason, as anyone who ventures out hopes to get something. However, hunting for the specific purpose of getting your limit on National TV sends the wrong message IMO.

All too typical TV trash.
