Got ominous news from the vet.

Last night my 9 year old female was panting heavily and acting like she wanted to throw up. She hasn't had much appetite in the last 4 days , not the usual pig she has been. I called my vet he said give her 3 tspns of pepto bismal and see if that calms her down. That was at 11pm. Seemed to help. I checked on her again at 1 30 and she was calm. Checked again at 6 30 and she was laying down calm. Vet called at 730 checking on us and I said she is calm but still panting. He said get a urine sample and bring her in.

7 30 I gave her some food and she nibbled a small amount. Took her outside and got a urine sample . She took a drink of water but was walking around coughing and again acting like she wanted to barf.

Vet looked at urine sample and noted only slightly elevated red blood cell count but having been it heat was not abnormal. Took a stethoscope and listened to her breathing which he said may indicate some fluid on her lungs. But he said I am afraid she has a large mass as I can't hear her heartbeat. Got some super antibiotics and Lasix as a diuretic but he cautioned me it's probably not going to correct her as he stressed a large mass is highly likely.

I had an 8 yr old GSP that came in one day breathing heavier and coughing like you describe, his diagnosis was basically what you may be facing. I don't know your dog but I selfishly kept him going on lasix and even had the fluid drained once to keep him comfortable thinking something would turn around. Looking back I should have let him go and not put him through that. Not advising you just my experience and best of luck. 🤞🤞

I appreciate that. I will be watching her closely.
