Great day to be out, birds held tight. And Luke was a rockstar. If it wasn't for him I most likely would have went home empty handed. he dug numerous birds out of the grass for me...

The last field I walked was a wooly waterway through a corn stubble field, about Half way through the draw is a patch of thick grass about 30 yards long and 20 yards wide. Normally this is where they are, Luke kicked out two hens in front of me, then he flushes a rooster that he damn near got the tailfeathers of, I drop him, and another roosters follows from the same spot. Drop him as well, they both fell in the stubble and took off running. Luke went after the first bird to the right, and the other went strait ahead, so here I am running after this damn bird I get about 60 yrds across the field and almost on top of him, and Luke comes out of nowhere with the first bird in his mouth and jumps on top of the other runner.. needless to say it was a proud moment. Just wish he would have told me that I didn't need to waste my time chasing this one. haha

And I was back in the truck and on the way home in time to listen to the whole Chiefs Disaster...

This was the first time this year I've had a whole day, just me and Luke. My favorite hunts of the year are always solo hunts. Something about being out just the two of us. Hopefully we will be able to do this one more time before the season ends.

Awesome Spence! Those tend to be my most cherrished hunts as well....just never seem to do it that way much these days.

Thanks for sharing:thumbsup:

Love the photo and the story!! Great job Spence!!!!!

Nice pic and great looking lab Spence. Sounds like fun. I also live in Overland Park. I'm working from home today. Watching it snow and wishing I was out west.

Thank you! And no joke, i wish I could be out there today and tommorow. I will be out on Saturday and Sunday, but watching this is killing me. Good thing i had a good day yesterday to carry me over!

My golden did a similar stunt years ago on mallards I jumped off a pond... One in the mouth and one runner trapped with his feet. He pretty much laid down on top of it to keep it from running off... Very similar circumstances to your story... I bet the roosters weren't as docile as the ducks were. I imagine your dog had to put up with a lot of pecking and kicking! Thanks for sharing your story and reminding me of one of my favorite hunting moments with my ol' dog.

My buddies are heading out this weekend,my boss decided that he needed this weekend off more then I did,the nerve of him.
Oh well, have to have a job so....guess I will be in SEK this weekend.

now kyle you know the only reason why that big ol dog got anything done is becouse their were no other dogs around good pics tho and hopefully you have good luck this weekend
