I have not done a kansas opener in 5 years or so. As I was driving home from work tonight passed several trucks heading west. It always takes me back to being a teenager and the excitement I had when we would take off in the caravan on that friday at 11 or so. We would make it to hays about dinner and then turn north for the last 2 hrs or so. I remember sitting in that restaurant with the other kids thinking about flushing pheasants that would be bagged the next day. Sleep would barely come but that feeling of that first field of the day will never leave me no matter how old I get. Those were years when limits came easy, 150 bird weekends were not uncommon, but unlike the birds shot the memories of how the experience made me feel is what I remember. My father died when I was 18 and hunting lost its priority for me for a few years. I intend to get out with my boys a little later in the year when it slows down some. I hope you all make some great memories this weekend and stay safe.
