Golden retriever

Does anyone on here hunt birds with golden retrievers? If so,what opinions?
Have owned and hunted with six Golden's - current one, Izzy is a female the other five males. All have strong prey drive, some have pointed birds all have been great hunters esp finding cripples.

Yes, Im on my 4th. Theyre the best all around package. Great noses, finding cripples, running birds, and they do it all with a smile on their face.
Jaxson is from Nelson Kennels in MN.
I've always had Labrador retrievers, but my dad had several goldens, but I only hunted with one of them and she didn't really get to hunt more than once a year, she lived in California. I've been kicking around the idea of getting a golden retriever puppy.

Absolutely love my two. All I have ever hunted with so I'm probably biased. Can't beat the personality - especially for house dogs the rest of the year.

I am a little biased because I raise Goldens and I hunt with mine. I think the Goldens I produce make fine hunting dogs. But it all comes down to preference and what you are looking for in a hunting companion. I hunt with my dogs but 9 months out of the year they are a pet and mine live in the house with me. I just received a text yeterday from a customer who has one of my pups and is ready for another one because of how great they are in the field and around the house. Last summe I had 4 repeat buyers come back for another dog from Nelson Retrievers. That is the best indicator to me that we are doing things right and that people love their field bred goldens. But I wll warn you, they are not cheap. Health issues can destoy this breed if we don't carefully breed for great health and great genetics. Send me a message if you want to learn more.

I’m on #5 and he’s from Goldenboy. He has amazing drive and natural instincts. Really excited to see his progression this year.

I’ve had a dozen over the years, presently there are 5 in my house, from 1 to 16.5. Just make sure they are from hunting lines and the breeders did the genetic workups. There is a great article in Shooting Sportsman this spring on the history and ability of goldens. Well worth reading. I also do agility with mine, I have a wall of MACH ribbons.
