Garmin/Tri-Tronics Alpha

Too bad I bought my Astro last year. With all the Astro fans on this site alone, I could have probably picked up a used one here from one of you guys looking to upgrade!:(

i hunted with a guy one time who was so damned busy looking at his tracker, he could barely walk without falling on his butt!........:)

Just bought my two dog system last year. I need to add a collar this year for the pup!

I like the idea behind the Alpha. But I will wait until it has been awhile to lay 1100.00 down!

I have one. One dog.

Replaces:
Beeper/bell.
Shock collar.
GPS for me.

Adds the ability to find your pointing dog (dog's own gps) on point in thick cover. Shows you and the dog on the handheld's screen. Quiet. I really like that. Does other things, calculator, sunrise sunset, etc. Somethings are gimmicky.

Spendy?

Good GPS $300 to 500
E Collar(s) I had over $375 in mine.

Pretty close to $800 for new Alpha.

I traded my ecollar into collarclinic.com on mine.

I agree, there are major Benefits on this system. Before the Garmin, I would hack my dog(big runner). But now, as long as I know where he is, I know he will hold point. We are good! I agree too, that there is a lot of junk that isnt needed on it. I even have a Glide tracker?

just got one from cabelas on thursday--- will report when i have used it--

Tried mine out today--after reading instructions last night and playing with the unit--two dogs-- worked great--instructions quite clear--and after reading some what intuitive--but I've been using Garmin in aircraft for twenty years or so and tri-tronics longer, unless you are a techno geek (I'm not) charge units and spend some time with unit and manual before going to field--get basics down and build from there--JMO
