Full choke lead

I agree with you guys 100%. But for the avg pheasant hunter a box of 35 dollar shells is the least expensive purchase. Think of the cost, of a dog with dog food, vet bills, ect…
Then a license and stamp, vests, boots, shotguns. Most of us are probably not shooting 300 dollar shotguns to save money.
I would even say the avg pheasant hunter shoots less than 1 box of shells at pheasants a year. That 1 or 2 shots you take per pheasant depending on how bad of a shot you are is probably the cheapest part.
For example the Boss bismuth shells are 35 per box of 20. You order direct from the manufacturer so you don’t have to shelf surf your local sporting goods stores. Where I hunt we have areas where you have to shoot non tox so if I’m using boss bismuth I’m covered, and for the other areas I can still feel confident the bismuth will get the job done negating the requirements for carrying both lead and steel to me.

I've got a case of bismuth and it works. That being said lead is cheaper and works better scientifically, i.e. better density. Lead will perform better than bismuth, this is a fact. If you want to only use steel or bismuth and you know its limitations that's great. Just don't look down your nose at someone who prefers to use a ballistically superior and legal choice of ammunition. All things being equal density of metal is the most important factor. A quality lead shell beats a quality bismuth shell 100% of the time.

I agree with you 100% on lead being superior to bismuth, and am not trying to look down upon anyone for choosing it. I was just merely trying to talk about the options out there that people have. They have just come a lot further than they were in the past.
My fault on getting things off topic of the original discussion, and apologize if I came off trying to put anyone or anything down. Was just enjoying a good discussion 😀
That being said I would be lying if I said I don’t keep lead in my truck as well as bismuth.

I agree I've heard good things about it holding the shot in a more uniform way
I don't use it for pheasants, but Winchester makes a turkey load called Longbeard XR. I've posted about this ammo for a few years now since I switched over to it a while ago. The difference in this load to a standard turkey load is astonishing. It has directly helped me tag more turkeys in the spring solely based on the increase in range. Its expensive ammo, but I only take one shot turkey hunting anyways (if I'm lucky).

I would be interested in a review of the Winchester Rooster XR. It has the same shot-lok technology. But its very expensive.
