I don't think I'm taking my 28 I'm not that big of a double barrel guy
Goose and I would like to apply for a hunting trip with you. We could sit on the bench and drink P.B.R. I'll have to get me a 50's A5 or he may not let me sit by him.My hunting partners won’t be shooting my birds anytime soon, as they’re carefully selected…fully legal to be out in the wilds with a firearm, but impaired to such a degree that they shoot very few birds…eyesight issues, hearing impairments, difficulty walking on uneven terrain, etc…some of the time I have benches set up and they’re really pass shooting…or throwing passes, as I bring a nerf football out (orange) for them to keep themselves occupied…I keep track of their position based on where I see the football…it’s a good time, and if my shooting a 28 requires more time afield, everyone’s happy, as my hunting partners enjoy being out in the wilds of North and South Dakota!![]()
Love the idea!!!!Goose and I would like to apply for a hunting trip with you. We could sit on the bench and drink P.B.R. I'll have to get me a 50's A5 or he may not let me sit by him.
I feel that way about my son. I’m not as altruistic with my usual hunting crew. If the birds are flying and I’m out with the usual hunting crew, I want them to be successful but I’m not happy if I don’t get a few. I don’t have to get the most and I really don’t need to get more than one or two.Honestly, I prefer strong hunting partners…physically, with great dogs, shooting prowess, and the ability to “read” a field and the situation and react intelligently when called for. I don’t want the responsibility to always be the guide and to shoot a disproportionate # of birds. When MattD and his friend stopped in yesterday, I had my 2 friends set up 1/2 mile away in CRP/cedar strip/nearby food plots and they hunted for a few hours, I drove by a few times and watched…they finished up our 4 day limit and had a ball…hundreds of birds in this modest 40-50 acre chunk of cover. My best days this season were when we’d do a group hunt before lunch, 4,5,6 guys, then I’d set them up with some spots, and I’d go do my own thing with a dog or two and hunt a bit, drive around and scout a bit, visit with farmer friends, etc. had quite a few days like that. I get more enjoyment out of seeing my pals have success than shooting birds myself, but there’s plenty for all. Really loved seeing my pup progress starting with prairie grouse and Huns and then pheasants…she’s awesome, couldn’t be happier! Had much fun with my 28’s again, particularly this past 8 days…carried it a few days, shot 8, recovered them all…up to 15 shot over past 2 seasons, 100% recovery. Confidence is everything, I have it with my 28’s. Gonna experiment with slightly more open chokes in my red label…LM/M? Used M/M this past week…got some patterning to do! Sitting in the dark at 5 am and enjoying a pot of coffee before the guys come downstairs is a highlight of the day…hangin with the dogs, mine and the other guys’ as well, and reflecting on the prior day’s activities afield…can’t turn it off, just a nonstop highlight reel that plays in my head. Hope to get out one more time, burying my mom this Friday, and then who knows? Happy New Year, hope it’s a great year for all!![]()
Nice when it’s spread pretty evenly…I feel that way about my son. I’m not as altruistic with my usual hunting crew. Ironically, the last day I hunted South dakota, I tried pass shooting in these trees, lots of hands flew over me, but the roosters were all smart and didn't fly down the sides, they all got away they all flew out aways from the trees and then flew into the thick cover. I didn't have a bench,or a football, or anybody with me to block unfortunately!!Love the idea!!!!![]()
