First Pheasant hunt in Kansas

I will be leaving from Kansas City in the next couple weekends and going into Kansas for my first pheasant hunt in the state. I will only be able to use WIHAs, so can anyone point me to some good public land along the interstate or not too far off? Can go and probably stay one night there somewhere.

So do you think that Cedar Bluff Wildlife Area near Ellis would be good? Or should I still try to go farther West?

Recommend you follow the given advice.

Have any advice on Public Land? I understand to keep going Northwest..., but finding decent public land is not easy.

Jake, locations of good hunting spots public or otherwise, are closely held secrets, you really don't expect another hunter to share that accumulated wisdom with a anyone but a close friend do you? This is what the responding posters are trying to gently tell you. Glad you joined the forum, do your research, first hand, put in the hours, and frustration, we all share, post your successes and failures, we're basically a welcoming bunch.

I understand that hunters are not going to tell me exactly where to go. However, this being my first time and trying to get a spot where there are some birds is frustrating and I am not asking for an exact field to go hunt in. I have asked about a rather large public area or if I should go farther west than that particular public area. I appreciate the welcome, but please do not patronize me.

Considering the treatment most guys get on here with 4 posts asking for bird intel, i think you have been given plenty of info. I read the posts, you were basically told where to go. If you would even put out the effort to read through the Kansas posts since the beginning of the season you could find plenty of info. That is about the best you will probably get on here. Where is policeman Spence when you need him,

Seriously??? Having more posts than someone else makes them more qualified to ask questions? I asked a fairly specific question. This is such a sweet board... someone trying to get into Pheasant hunting asks a question about Pheasant hunting and the board "elders" decide to come out a be dicks? Nice.

And I have read a lot of the board. Everything says to go North and West. I plan on doing that. However, I am trying to decide between a few different places to go and was hoping that there were some veteran hunters here than might help me out. If there are any of you out there I would still appreciate the help. If you think you are Rambo and the only person that should get to hunt Kansas, then please do not respond.

dude you were given plenty of info on where to go. Other than that what do you want................directions to the birds? This board will give you plenty of advice and experience. Coming on the first couple of days and asking for directions? Really? Who is the dick now? If you want guaranteed birds, there is a preserve in Smithville.

You seem to be the dick. Did you read what I asked? Where did I ask for specifics? I asked if a certain LARGE public WIHA was far enough West or not. That is not asking too much. And the only info you have provided on here was that others gave me info. Thanks for adding to the experience.

What are your other options? You stated you were trying to decide between a few different places, but I can only see where you asked about Cedar Bluff.

Your attitude isn't going to buy you any goodwill on this site.

I asked if Cedar Bluff was far enough Northwest. I came here trying to get some advice... but a couple guys have put me on the defensive a bit.

Cedar Bluff area is an OK area. We found birds there and only hunted walk-in. Bird #'s are down across Kansas, so it can be difficult everywhere.

Some folks say to go farther west. I would say a good dog is the most important part of your chances for success.

GOOD LUCK!
