Fire destroys lodge at Mn Horse and Hunt club

That sux. Been there a couple times with a buddy that is a member. A little to far away for me. I talk to the owner or one of his staff every year at the game fair. Real nice people. I always wish I had room for another dog as their GSP are real nice

I was born and raised right close by the HHC.

I remember when it was called The Wilderness. We have eaten there and attended hunt tests there. Sad deal, a lot of history with that place.

Spent a lot of time there in the '90s at the Open. Had the dog of the day and won the Calcutta with one of the Pudelpointers. If they have good insurance they will have a better building for the future.

I'm sure they are well insured. But even if they weren't, the two owners of the club easily have the financial means of rebuilding better than ever.

A little tidbit about the HHC. One of the first Sporting clays courses built in the US, the other being in Houston Texas back in mid 80's. To this day it still is one of the biggest.

If your into Tournament hunting, the US Open Pheasant held each April at the club is the superbowl event of it's kind.

Was there a week or so ago - burned right to the ground. They had just completed some renovation, due to water? damage and had refurbished the lower level, which it badly needed. Apparently they will operate out of the guest house until the new building is ready.

I enjoy the sporting clay course; not so high on their hunt fields - too many hills, and woods. Major Avenue, Glenwood, in my opinion, is a better hunt experience!

Yeah, it gets a little hilly. But those same hills are a target setter's playground when it comes to setting targets for the several national and World sporting events they've hosted over the years..

Tend to agree tho a couple fields were not too bad. They would place birds under dead xmas trees at the Open in one field. On another one of the hill fields the dog tracked three of four birds well out of bounds.

The last time I "hunted" the H&H property the birds were walking in front of us and several jumped to a tree limb; not very sporting...itjust wasn't worth the money to pursue very tame birds on this property.

Lonerooster had a membership there 2 years ago. We both were 10min away and it was nice to go shoot scratch. They do have some good sporting clay courses there. I think part of how the birds will fly at any preserve is how they are placed.
