Headed out tonight at midnight to around Hoxie Ks for some Pheasant hunting Mon till who knows when. Hope the snow stays just east as predicted I don't need muddy roads LOL. Kinda hunting alone but will sure enjoy being out west again. My 13 yr old nephew will be tagging alone to keep me safe and company as also my new dog Fancy. He has never seen a Pheasant. But I gave him some great safety and shooting lessons yesterday and he shot very well on clay targets. As with most kids without a father to teach him anything he is so limited as to what life will share with him. Well I hope to at least get him in to a few birds and see his eyes light up, that would be worth the trip. will let everyone know how we do. See ya all latter, Dave

good luck. sounds like you are doing a great thing by taking that kid hunting. Everybody should take a kid hunting.....just to get em out there away from it all.c have a safe trip

Be safe & have fun. Sounds to me like that young lad kinda has a Father . . . good on you.

Dave,

Good luck on your trip. Hope you guys get into some birds. Love it that you are getting your nephew in the field.

I wish you safe travels and a good hunt.

Good luck , be safe and hope to see some pictures posted next week.

Thanks for all the great wishes gentlemen. Will take pics even if its just the beautiful Kansas sunrise. Will have a great time for sure and dream of the trip latter in life. God willing will find a bird or two. Thanks guys, now a short nap and a 7hr drive . Dave

3 days and Now home. Saw bout 150 in 3 days 15% roosters. 23 great points from the new dog. I had 5 shots in 3 days and brought home 5. Was OK but got to have better luck someday LOL. Dave
Edit almost forgot . For the Quail lovers I saw more Quail than pheasants. Many many, the locals could not believe it. Anyway I am kinda weird bout it but I did not shoot any. For me I don't drive 450 miles to shoot Quail but they were there. Dave

The Nephew had a great time, got one . He had a lot of great shots , many more than me but had the first time jitters. Wore him out huntn with all the walking. I hunted harder than I ever have in my 25yrs of going west. My time hunting Pheasants are very limited and have some health issues that may bring it to a halt soon, so I am trying to hunt as much as possible. I walked more miles than ever before this hunt. I think I have the funds for one more hunt this season hope it will go well. We could have with a fair shotn partner had bout 13 roosters . But that's huntn for sure and Dakota will have a lot of great dreams in years to come. I did the best shooting I ever have , Probably knowing that there was few birds and the opportunities for a good shot was limited in the back of my mind , I was just on the money with the old Remington. Just one Farmer said no to hunting so not bad. I saw the biggest bobcat in my life also. I had pheasant for supper with my wife and girl last night they really liked it also. The folks were I was at was really great people kinda like I was back in the old days.Wish I have not lost all my huntn buds but I just will deal with what life has gave me and thanks to God I was able to have a great time once again. I hope before I cant walk anymore I just get into real great hunting as a couple years back. I was in a new area for me and it takes several days to learn a new area. Good luck to everyone that hunts Pheasants and I wish ya all the very best of times. Dave

I know that drive well, as we made the trip from Frontenac, Kansas to Dodge City and Ness City many times to see our parents with two energetic boys in the station wagon. That was pre-dvd entertainment for the boys, had we had that we might have never moved back to Dodge. ;)
