Fall Turkey

Anyone going for fall turkey? Got tags but have not planned a hunt yet.

I have not gone fall turkey hunting the last couple of years. I buy tags, but always end up spending my time with the dogs.

This is the first year I didn't buy a Fall turkey tag. This year I ambitiously, some might say foolishly, bought two deer tags again. Hopefully I can tag out with my bow so I don't screw up my December.

Of course in order to tag out I will actually have to GO, so that may be a bit of a problem...

I hear you Toad! I bought 3 tags and have gone once for about 2 hours. Now I have a sick mom :(and family stuff for the next weeks.

I hope to get out at the end of Oct and then again the first weekend in Nov, but who knows. A lot can happen between now and then, but keep the faith. Confidence is a must when bow hunting! You will get one!!! Just think that way!

NOW GET OUT THERE AND HUNT!!!!!!

Kick'em Up!

Thanks man. Best of luck to you also! (and best wishes for the health of your mom)

Sorry Britchaser, I did not intend to hijack your thread. So what is your go-to strategy for Fall turkeys? I have to admit that mine was always pretty haphazard in the Fall, maybe "opportunistic" is a better word. Basically if I saw turkeys walking purposefully, I would try to get in front of them and wait for them to come by. No calls, no decoys, no breaking up the flock like some guys do. It wasn't always an effective strategy, but was very exciting when it worked out. Sometimes the anticipation would about make be blow a gasket!

T-Bird

Went out yesterday to whack a Tom with my bow...... he had been walking by my trail cam the last two day...... Yep, he was a no show!!!!

BIRDS!!!!!!

Opportunistic is true for me too. Last couple of years I have known the roosting habits of two flocks, one in NW and one NC which paid off. I try to sneak into the roosting area while they are out feeding.

A fox in the hen house! Nice!

That sounds somewhat more reliable than my methods. Might have to give that a try sometime. Thanks for the tip!

It's pretty exciting to be there when they fly up or down.
But you run the risk of making them change roost sites.

I like to get in there path to the roost, about 100 yards or more away.
