Fall ESS trial

Good luck to you and your dogs. If I get a chance to catch one near me I'm definitely going to go see what its all about.

Anyone interested can find the calendar here: http://www.essft.com/

QH the local ones are in January (Oroville- hunt tests) and March (Gray Lodge and N. Grasslands- field trials)

My experience has been everyone is quite friendly and helpful. Wear something orange.

I wish I could be there to see that Ken, but as you know I can't. Good luck to all. I hope you post the dog placements/owners when it is done......Bob

I'm watching that weekend, then running him myself for the rest of the season after that, starting with St. Croix the following week. Hopefully I won't mess him up.... ;)

I really would like to go and watch, but its too bad that it had to be waterfowl opening weekend. That's a bummer.

Well it came and went, No new field champion.
But was very pleased with the dogs. 64 warriors started the day. In the 3rd series there was only 9 left in the open and 9 in the armature. I still had a horse in the race. When the armature started I thought I had a good chance with only 9 dogs left. I saw a dog go out on a failed retrieve so that left 8. I cast the dog and ended up with 2 really bad plants, resulting in poor finds and knocking him out of the placements.:( they were buried in a low hole in a thick green clump, both of them. Not the way you get to show off. But he finished the trial. Only 7 finished. River was actually looking better, but in the earlier series she went on a retrieve in the standing corn and put up another bird. I had to bring her in and give her a line. She took it good but stooped short, I tried but could not get her back to the area, she came short by just a few feet and the bird was down wind, so she needed to go past the corn to smell it. Thats the bad luck that happens all the time. But I was very pleased with the dogs, and I know any weekend could be theres if things just go good.

congrats Ken, My wife always says trials are the craziest sport. Luck is always needed to get the right breaks, Of course birds planted in holes can get one fuming. Just getting to the 3rd series is a great accomplishment. No trials for me till spring but we are going to hit the mountains for wild chukar this coming weekend. I'm still trying to get a trip to S.D. Good luck on your next trial.
