Eye on a new pup

Little Brit

New member
Well I think its time for a new pup. My old female brit is 10 now and slowing down so I have my eye on a breeder in Ohio. I missed out on the 1st batch of pups as they went quick but he hasn't advertised the 2nd younger litter yet. Thinking on a male this time around and maybe some trailing. Any advice from members on here

First, where are you located? And what type of trials are you thinking of doing? I run a Brittany in NSTRA trials. If you were going to do NSTRA I would try and find a pup from a breeding that has NSTRA champions in it. My dog came from a breeder in Colorado and he has some great dogs.

Wherever you get your pup just make sure to do your due diligence. Check the pedigrees, check the parents and grand-parents, and make sure you check references on the breeder. There are lots of good breeders around and lots that are not.

Good luck.

I have never owned a male dog so I guess I cannot say anything about them. But, for me, there is a reason I own females and keep doing so.
If you have a female now and have enjoyed her, a better question may be, why am I considering changing to a male?

Hope you make a great choice, and good luck!

Js, you're missing out on a male pissing on tires, hunting partners legs and all that other good stuff!:D

My current female is not good with other females not sure how she would be with a female pup though. She is ok with male dogs as she just goes about her business even if they are sniffin around her. Female on the other hand is teeth out and hair up but this is with older female dogs not sure how she would react to a pup. She was ok when I brought a kitten home that climbed all over her and now they are best friends.

What's the breeding? If you want to trial, you better get a dog from trial lines. What kind of trials are you looking into? I can tell you that Brits, like every breed, can be good or bad. I have never had a problem with females though, and that's all I have ever had. If your female is aggressive, it might be the breeding, not the breed.

I have three males and a female.

I LOVE my female. LOVE her. She's my baby girl.

But dealing with the heat, and all that mess...

I'll take a boy every time.
Love the males.

I've got 2 males and 2 females- eat, sleep, play, and hunt together

over all the years and all the bird dogs I've had I haven't figured out which I would rather have

course it really matters in the way you start them
