Exposing the pups~

Pups are growing up. Now they are 13 weeks old. I have 2 hanging out with me, plus a young lab. I also have 2 puppy byers that live close enough that I have been able to help them on and off. 2 weeks ago, we had a training day where we introduced the puppies to ducks and did a little bit of bird introductions and intro to tracking. This friday I had one stop by and we worked her on intro to gunfire.
There as many ways to accomplish this as there are dog trainers to tell ya. But I like to use a combination on prey drive and chain gang exposure. The minute I see an adverse reaction, I change tactics. But, I have been fortunate with this litter to have some very sound and confident youngsters. Here are some pictures.

Pups have to learn how to navigate marshy areas if they are to become good duck dogs.

Young Jake and Ivy. We used the beans as a natural barrior so that the young pups couldnt get to close to the bird traps and become startled by the launch.

Alright, excuse my big arse. Here is the sequence fro the gun fire. Get the pup all pumped up, release bird. Wait until the pup is totally engaged and pop the gun.

Very cool? You think any of them will hunt this Fall/Winter?

They all better! I dont sell to non hunters..........knowingly that is.

3 are close to me, so I will be on them to hunt with us a bit. It isimportant to me to see what I have produced. :)

Great looking pups!

Why hav'nt the owners oicked a couple of these up? They should be gone by 8 weeks, tho I am sure you socailized and worked with them.

Uncle Buck, you are correct, they should be home by now. I dont think I will ever do this again.
I dont think that pups should be home no sooner than 8 weeks and shouldnt stay with the breeder any longer than 10 weeks.
They should be home bonding.

That said, there were circumstances that the owners had vacations plans already in place before they purchased the dogs. They are being charged boarding and puppy training fees.
I have done my best to keep the puppies little minds moving forward. Intro to birds, potty training, intro to swimming and ducks and just learning to be good citizens.

I am making a post right now about the intro to ducks.

Does anyone know how to get a video off of your mobile phone and onto the net for viewing?

I know you are doing it right, and I understand what it is like in the summertime. Most pups will bond with a new owner if the breeder socializes and keeps them busy. The "pack" dynamics change also. I worry about new owner commitment sometimes when they can't get the pup for one reason or the other, but you can only plan on when you are going to have pups to an uncertain degree.

Uncle buck, How is this for keeping their minds moving forward? I love this little girl. She is leaving tomorrow.:(
