I'm hoping for around early January. It was great last week, but weather moving in starting Monday.
I wonder what it's like now.Looks like 5-8” snow possible over the next couple days and temps in the 20s for the next couple weeks
What a change from last year eh.There now, virtually no snow other than a crust…much dirt showing…
YesWhat a change from last year eh.
I just hunted eastern sd.Some deep snow, crust, ice was good. Very spooky, smart birds.I did get one bird on private land, none on public land. Lots of snow around aberdeen, and up north.Crusty, loud, difficult. It was a workout. On public,I was outsmarted several times by educated roosters.Had fun, but its a learning curve. I knocked on a few doors, and met some great people. One farmer put me into a few roosters.I didn't see a whole lot between Mitchell and north. There now, virtually no snow other than a crust…much dirt showing…
No, I was way up north.Spent a night in mitchel, then hunted straight north.Hunted public land, and was skunked the first day.Roosters either flushed wild, or doubled back. Deep snow around aberdeen.Did you make it down to the Gregory area?
Next year, me, you, and B Banger are going on a walk together just outside Huron. My impression of eastern Dakota is this:I like all the shelter belts and cattail areas. Corn is everywhere. The public land has very smart birds.I actually walked very close to 3 roosters who did not fly. They moved 20 yards, and my dog didn't know they were there.Very smooth move. I had fun, it was very challenging.
Lol!! Hunted 2 days, then high tailed it home in front of below zero weather. Fired my gun one time, and was lucky to get a bird. Big thanks to a farmer! Very spooky, educated birds.Did you leave anything in SD?
I still have a 5 day license.Next year, me, you, and B Banger are going on a walk together just outside Huron.
Oh yeah...I certainly did dump mud.Lol!! Hunted 2 days, then high tailed it home in front of below zero weather. Fired my gun one time, and was lucky to get a bird. Big thanks to a farmer! Very spooky, educated birds.
