E-Collars Effect on Different Dogs

Jeff, when did you purchase your 2502?

The reason I ask is that very early on, I want to say the first year they were introduced, there was an issue with the batteries that came on the 2500 series. I know a breeder who was then a pro staffer for Dogtra and he steered me away from them early on. At that time I had already been using the 2002 T&B unit, but he commented about staying away from the newer 2500 series till they get the bugs out.

Since then I haven't heard of any issues on the recent 2500 series collars and most people seem to like them??

By the way my 2002 T&B is literally bullet proof and have had it since 2006. No issues whatsoever and only last September did I send it in for the first time to have the batteries replaced with new ones. Takes a lickin and keeps on tickin....

birdshooter, this is my 2nd season using the Dogtra 2502 and I have had zero issues. Batteries seem to stay charged forever.

Zeb, the issues I spoke of were from the very first ones that were introduced. I suspect these have been out for at least 4 years now. Anyway, there were some issues with the batteries failing and I suspect that has been corrected since.

The only other knock on the first 2500's that I've read about was the horn. Located at the bottom under the dogs head vs on top where my 2000 T&B is located. According to some (and I have not actually heard one) they were not very audible at reasonable distances and would pack with snow easily. To be honest with ya this is all hearsay from others as I have not actually used one personally.

And ya, my 2002 T&B batteries have always held a charge for what seems like forever.

I have never noticed that having the horn on the receiver (bottom) has made any difference in the loudness. I hear mine as well and other guys that are running TriTronics. My problem is more my hearing loss. When I'm hunting with others they hear it before I do. They do get packed a little with snow and I suppose it does muffle the sound a little. That might be the only negative. But I think the benefits of having a compact unit all in one out weighs that one potential negative. I love mine and would recommend them to anyone.
