Doing an inventory

Wanted to update the inventory for insurance purposes, make, model, serial number, condition, who it is supposed to go to, all that. It’s been a while.

Made the mistake of letting the list lay on the kitchen table.

“Is this a list of all the shotguns you have ??? !!!”

Don’t be silly sweetheart, I’m not done yet.

Didn’t go over very well. I’m expecting a few new quilting dodads to enter the house.

I have only sold one gun that I purchased and have sold none that I was gifted or have inherited. Not a crazy high number, but there are a few in the safe that sometimes I forget I even halve. May next fall I will make a goal to take each one hunting at least once.

If you insure them, the government will know you have them.

What's your point? You worried someone's gonna barge down your doors, break into your safe, and repossess them? If you're a law abiding citizen, you've got nothing to hide or worry about, ever.

Mine are all insured. They have a lot of monetary and sentimental value to me. Locked away in a fireproof safe until I use one.

Privacy has it's own rewards.

History has shown that governments, throughout time, will eventually seek to disarm it's own citizens.

That’s not true! I have a specialized policy that does not require me to list make, model or serial number, if I have a claim I only have to prove that I really owned the gun.
If the government were to impound the insurance companies records it would only show that I have guns, not what make or model they are.
If you have purchased a gun from a dealer since 1968 you have completed a Form 5573. If you have purchased a gun in the last 15 years or so you have completed a 5573 and they call in to check your ability to purchase the firearm or you have a card that you obtained through local law enforcement.
Unless you inherited your guns or bought them privately there is a record somewhere that you own them! Just by insuring them does increase your risk of unlawful seizure.
