Retrieving of waterfowl is a must, but pointing is what really does it for me.

crippled thought to be lost bird

don't care if its pointed or flushed but what does it for me is when a bird is crippled or thought to be lost and after some work it ends up being retrieved

i get the most enjoyment watching the dogs work out a scent, pin the bird and as many pheasants will try to sneak off, watch the dogs relocate and try and pin the bird again, that shows brains, pointing is nice but the dog work is what is exciting. that is followed by a retrieve that you figured was a lost bird, like the dogs pulled one of of the bag, great find

Only a Lab guy would get that. Equally cool to me is the search and chase of a winged bird.

guess so, i couldn't stand all that excitement so i cut my dogs tail's off.
