Dog Visibility

I have a red setter pup. When I run him in the field he is pretty hard to see. In the woods will probably be almost impossible.

I have had a couple of orage vests for my other dogs, but the velcro always releases and they fall off. I think I have lost 2 or 3 of them now. I have also found a few in WMAs from other peoples dogs, so I am thinking they just are not that reliable.

Any good ideas to make the pup more visible? Has anyone tried those super wide visibility collars?

you should look for a vest that has buckles like a collar on it i have seen them but cant remember where i seen them at

I have one like that for my springers, but it is just a skid plate. It really has held up well. I have not been able to find a vest style one though.

Thanks

Here's the one I've been using for years from Cabelas. Provides both protection and visability. They have adjustable buckles that don't come undone.

I have a chest protector for Tony. It has orange straps that valco on his back they really help in seeing Tony. To keep them from coming loose, I Duck Tape the straps. Even the duck tape in the heat of battle works loose at times. But I have never lost his protector..........Bob

Someone here recommended dogbooties dot com ;) I got some and they use a product called 'velstretch'. That stuff won't come undone. They sell it for 2 bucks a yard. You could retro the vests you already have.

I use the Cabelas chest protector and its never fallen off a fast moving GSP. They are a bit noisey though. So when stealth is needed I take it off and just carry it in my game pouch. I also have the wide viz collar which is always on my dog when in the field. Both seem to serve thier purpose quite well.

Have you tried different colors of collars? I have trouble distinguishing between hunter orange and the background brown. I use bright green collars on my dogs... Just a thought...

I haven't, but I think I am going to order one of those extra wide collars. Green works good? Even early season?
