Dog box on trailer

Has anyone put a dog box on a trailer tongue? We drive annually from MD to SD towing a box trailer with gear. We normally have 2 labs but have a guy who wants to bring a third. Thinking about mounting a box on the tongue in front of the trailer body.
Any success or failures out there?

Thanks,

I personally value my dog too much to even consider doing that. If it's an aluminum box bolted down to the tongue, it might work. If it's a plastic carrier, I wouldn't even think about it, that's just my opinion.

I don't care what it was made of I would not put one on the tongue of a trailer, for one thing it would shake the heck out of him, you would not be able to make a sharp turn and it would hender your backing up especially if you had to make a sharp turn backing up. Gas fumes also would be a factor. It might go directly into the kennel and you know surely what would happen:thumbsup:
Just my 2 cents.

I really don't want to come across as a a** on this( but guess I will any way)..How about mounting a chair on the tongue let the guy ride there-- an put the dog in the truck?

Seriously you are obviously concerned with this idea and seeking opinions--this could lead to a lot or heart break--please reconsider that idea--be safe have a great hunt:)

Man or dog, that is going to be one bounced, blown, weather-beaten, and bedraggled being after that long a jaunt on a rear bumper. The back draft, exhaust fumes, and debris cloud immediately behind the vehicle . . . whoo, awful. Not sure either species could survive it.

Tell your buddy the concerns about doing this, and maybe he will decide to leave his dog at home. What kind of auto will you be driving? No way you can work in another crate in the auto

Why not invest in one large bog that fits both dogs. However, I wouldn't trailer any dog, nor would I put them in an open pickup.

when pushed for room i double kennel 2 of my dogs. this works well for me even on long trips. if it's warm out i do leave the kennel cover flaps open.

Put it in the truck with you if you have room. Any good truck isn't complete without some dog hair and mud in it.:D If your worried about that then your truck is way to nice. :) No way would I put one of my dogs in a crate on the tongue of a trailer.
