Disappointed

I now live about 60 miles from the Sidney store. I used to go there several times a year just to browse. I bought a Merkel 1620 Combo, an AYA 4/53 Deluxe 16 ga and a mis-marked AYA 4/53 20 ga from the Gun Library! In the fall they had racks and racks of quality hunting clothing for upland and big game hunters, now the have some low quality camo for duck hunters. Still drive by there a few times per year, haven't stopped in 3-4 years. I MISS the old Cabelas!

I heard that they had bought out Mack's Prairie Wings as well. All these stores will be down to one line that you have to borrow from the bank to wear or shit stuff nobody who ever hunted designed. I've got a pair of brush pants my grandfather had that are in good enough shape to still wear. They seem to keep shrinking though so I don't wear them much the older I get lol but good luck finding anything that quality these days.

I was wondering about that. Saw some of their stuff pop up on Cabela’s.

I was in a Scheels today browsing and their clothing department is impressive, lots of Sitka though.

I like their Northern flight line and am a sucker for a nice piece of equipment that says Cabela’s on it. Wearing a Cabela’s wool stocking hat now and used their Alaskan guide gear headlamp this morning.

One of the worst parts about Cabelas now IMO, is purchasing a gun. It takes forever to get waited on and if you decide to pull the trigger, it takes 3-4 people to sign off on the paperwork and sale itself. I try my hardest not to purchase firearms from that place if at all possible.

As someone stated, I don’t think the avid hunter is their target customer anymore. I do go there a lot but most times leave disappointed. I have a Cabelas CC and use it for all my business expenses and do rack up a lot of points. The points system sucks but my wife don’t ever ask or want to use them for other stuff. Probably half the clothes I wear are redhead, cheap and I use my points. But as a hunter the thing I spend the most money on in a span of a year is ammo. They absolutely have no selection! I wonder sometimes if they are even trying.

Ole Johnny Morris Bought an icon and turned it to MUD.
Stopped last year there for some last minute impulse Christmas gifts. Drab, dreary, dead, Johnny the balance sheet may look good but you done screwed the pooch!
Cabela's had dropped much of their good clothing line long before 2017. Cabela's really hasn't been good since around 2000, long before it sold. You guys must not have been shopping there 40 years ago. Cabela's sales had been down for years, much of their clothing line dropped, and they were tanking. They couldn't compete with Bass Pro so they sold. BPS didn't buy Cabela's to continue Cabela's line, they bought it to turn it in to BPS. Did you expect BPS to continue with Cabela's as it was and loose money? Cabela's was my favorite store back in the day, but like most everything, it couldn't continue. Not BPS fault, they are primarily a fishing store, and a good one. I started going to Springfield around 1980 and had ordered from their catalog prior to that.

The one in Mitchell SD LOST my drivers license for over an hour last time I got a firearm from them.

The bargain cave in the Mitchell Cabelas used to be awesome. Enter Bass Pro, bargain cave is gone. That store sucks now. Crap for ammo in stock. In theory, a gun store shouldnt be able to exist a block away, but last I knew there was a large one there
Could not agree more! Used to look forward to stopping there at the end of our trip - no more;
Found a 20 ga 870 LW barrel w/tubes that fit on my older fixed barrel Wingmaster; also bought 1st angle compensating range finder. That cave was incredible- Bass Pro acquisition was a sad day indeed

The one nearest me focuses on big game hunting. Specifically, archery and deer hunting. Because that's what people hunt here and it represents their largest hunter customer base.

It never had much upland hunting stuff. Even before BPS bought it.

The Cabela's in Mitchell, SD was a great store in the late 90's-early 2000's. Used to stop there on our way to Pierre and parts north, to shop and buy our out-of-state licenses. They had stacks of Prairie Storm on sale, and you could buy Herter's target load 16 gauge shells for $59/flat. They also had great khaki field pants that wore a long time. But then Bass Pro Shops bought them, and the service and merchandise quality has suffered greatly. No damn worm-drownders from Missouri have good instincts as to what northerners or Midwesterners need to hunt in the weather we face. They can stick their damn bass where the sun don't shine.

Use to stop in Sydney every trip back home to NE. Rarely if ever stop anymore. The bargain cave used to be great and that sidewalk sale someone mentioned, was it Christmas in July? Used to go to that sale every year, penny’s on the dollar for good stuff. There would be people camping out to be there first.

Great store behind the parking lot of the cabelas in Mitchell. SoDak gun shop. Almost totally hunting stuff plus out of state licenses done by staff quickly.

We used to stop at the Mitchell store on our prairie dawg shoots, but haven't stopped for well over a decade now.
