Spent the week in South Dakota. Planned on hunting ducks and Pheasants. Hunted ducks only. My son bought a Pheasant Lic. and shot a $114.00 rooster just off the edge of our yard. The fewest amount of birds I have ever seen well driving around. Fields standing in water, IMO it will take a freeze up to allow farmers into the fields. I would say near 90% + of crops are still standing.

SAVE YOUR MONEY!

Talked to relatives near Platt, they had 20 hunters in the field all day and by 3:00PM they had two birds.

If you go, bring your knee high rubber boots..your leather upland boots will not cut it.

:cheers:Wished I hadnt heard that...bags are packed and that is where we are going...oh well...thanks for the news...

driving 20 hr to hunt

Hope the crops will be down or at least started by friday coming from ga going to astoria

Not a chance that any crops will be down by the weekend. More like in several weeks or a month if it's dry or it freezes solid

Wettest I have ever seen it at this time of the year

Here are some pics

Well, did you get on the ducks to make up for it??

I'm headed out to the farm in 2 weeks and am looking forward to it. Just heard something on news about wettest coldest Oct since 1800's?

I'm bow hunting deer in WI right now and all crops are in and I haven't seen squat but neighbor shot 169 inch deer.

Moral is, the birds are there just go hunt them. Pheasant hunters know that they have to account for weather to get on real wild birds.

Why yes we did

We had 5 of us hunting

You had to do your scouting. There were lots of ducks but you had to locate where they were holding up and you had to switch locations daily or you would burn them out of a spot. Had some good eating while we were there and brought home our limit.

started on corn in astoria

I talked to my buddy in astoria they are starting on corn they will run day and night trying to get it out
