December in Kansas

I was going through some photo files tonight and came across a few December pics and thought about the December vs. January hunt thread. I still prefer January hunts, but sometimes in December you can get some good conditions.

This was December 11th-

My six year old grandson received an early Christmas present and is after his bird-

And, of course, there are some beautiful sunsets on the prairie-

Nice pic's Maynard, thanks for sharing!!:coolpics:

Excellent pictures Sir! Just the title got me excited. With any luck, the first snow will be the week I pick for vacation. Seldom do I get htat lucky though.

Was the Red Ryder enough to bring down that rooster?:)

As far as he knows, yes it can. In years to come he can get into the arguments of which gauge it really takes to kill a rooster, which caliber it takes to kill a deer, those arguments that big men wage, for now the Red Ryder is enough.;)

Ah Byrd the memories you just flooded me with I can not wait headed back home to good ol KS for opening day to hunt with my dad and younger brother. Great pictures :coolpics:

Beautiful pics maynard, captures the essence of what just being out there is all about...But you really got my blood pumping a bit too early you dirty-Byrd!!! :D

That young-un with his trusty Red Ryder in hand brought back a flood of memories for me - both roaming far & wide with one in my own faraway childhood days & that of my two sons alongside me when they were just starting out - I sure am hoping for grandkids to do it all over with again someday!

I remember that Christmas when I got my first BB gun. Here is my grandson-

Great Pics!

Byrd really nice pics and just what my tired soul needed. With any luck conditions will be about the same when I come home in late December for my two weeks r&r. I can't wait to experience the joys of a youngster tagging along with a BB gun in tow thinking that he has just got his first bird. Thanks.

I took my now 11yr old son out last year for the first time with me pheasant hunting. He had his BB gun, wearing the orange vest, and shot at bugs and cans.

However, he is now 11yrs old and I have him signed up for Hunters Ed here in Colorado Springs next month. I took him out Dove hunting with me and took some clay birds and my hand thrower.

I let him shoot a box of shells with my single shot H&R 20gauge. He didn't hit any ( I can't throw worth a flip with those hand throwers), however he didn't mind the 20gauge. He did have some reddness on him shoulder afterwards.

I asked him if he things he can shoot with it come pheasant season or a .410 and he said the 20gauge.

I am going to take him some more to shoot some trap or skeet. It is pretty cool when your son or grandson is old enough to go with you hunting or fishing or to watch sports or hunting shows and you can share ideas and thoughts and just talk about that stuff.

I think it is a shame that unfortuantely alot of young boys don't have that luxury and grow up without the morals and ethics that I learned and that I am passing on to my son and hopefully he will do the same.
