Crowing?

I don't think there's any doubt that good habitat can really help winter survival. The fact that there wasn't a much higher die off is a testament to the habitat that is in place. With a good spring, the numbers can rebound quickly.
 
I've still been seeing a lone rooster in the area for a while but the two hens were not seen for a while. This past weekend the alfalfa fields were cut and now I've seen the two hens hanging out by the wheat fields and an overgrown pasture. I have no idea if they tried to nest but if they did and it got destroyed I hope they try again in the pasture. That cover will last longer.
