Anyone ever crow hunt? Just curious as I believe Crow season just opened up.. I have never done it but I would imagine it would be a decent time..The trouble Im having is what to do after your harvest? I have a hard time hunting things that I can not put to use after. I just read an article on star trib about a group of Crow Hunters who use modifed shotguns with 7 foot barrels..CRAZY!

The March crow season is a blast! I used to go out quite a bit but with the high gas prices the last few years I don't make it out as much. Here are a few things I've learned over the years that will help your success.

Camo head to toe with facemask. Build a brushy blind if you can. I like to find a cedar or small spruce tree to sit up against to break up my outline. Don't move until you shoot. If the crows come in but flare out of gun range they are probably seeing you.

I like to stay away from large, mature wood lots. The crows will almost always come in over the tops of the trees which results in a lot of really high shots. I like to set up along brushy fencelines if I can find them.

If you use decoys don't put them in trees unless you can get them to the top of the trees. If you watch crows they are almost always sitting at the very tops of the trees. I rarely use decoys anymore and if I do it is on the ground in a field.

If nothing comes in about 10 mins move to another location. If there are any crows around they will show up quickly. If you have a good shoot in a location give it a rest for awhile. They are smart birds and will not come to a call if they have been shot at recently.

I used to hunt crows when I was a kid. Now I rarely ever see one. I don't believe I would shoot one if I had the chance.

I think i might get into this.. Found this website and it has alot of cool information. You can pretty much make cardboard decoys and spray them black.. Anyone up for a crow hunt! The website also has some decent recipes. It looks like the breast meat can be quite tasty..

hahaha!..Ill eat anything I shoot..or Ill try to eat it atleast

MAN! We have tons of crows up here year around.
Can't imagine why they would have a season on crows.
Yes I've shot crows lots of em. Get on a farm if you can, where there are cattle, look for fields where there's manure. You'll find crows by the thousand.

I believe they have a specific crow season because the US signed a protection act with Mexico to protect certain sub-species in the crow or raven family.. Apparently in Mexico their is a specices that is highly coveted as a migratory bird.. For whatever reason they are all lumped together in regards to the protection act (probably because it would be nearly impossible to distinguish one from antoher) which is in-turn why they have restricted seasons... I do not believe their are bag limits. I really wanna give this a go on a weekend.. Unfortunately the season is only this month and I have something planned every weekend.

The season dates are stupid. Who wants to sit out in the heat and humidity swatting mosquitoes and shooting through foliage in July. It would make more sense to go Sept 1 - Oct 31 & Feb 15 - Apr 15.
