I've mentioned it before, the Pudelpointer coats vary quite a bit. I have one "chewbacca right now and she picked up some burrs duck hunting Sat. She just pulls them out on her own when in the kennel or box and other than a few on her beard and top of head no problem. I do (will!) trim those areas.
The ideal and more common coat is wire and they will come right out if they stay in that coat. I breed for a good coat as much as I can but the father of the dog mentioned above is an import and we need new blood on occasion.

Does the Munsterlander have a single coat "hair coat" like the Wire Haired dogs or soft coated setter? Aren't you reducing the dogs natural protection and warmth by clipping of the coat?

They have a medium Harsh- Dense soft coat. Pretty much a single coat.

I do not and will not clip a dog. You need to keep the natural coat of the dog. It is just that when I am training they will lose the furnishings on the ears and legs. I hate it, but love the breed to much to change.
