Cheyenne River Sioux Reservation

I saw on Facebook that you can't get through the Cheyenne River Sioux Reservation on highways 212, 63,65, or 20 because of Covid-19 checkpoints. It said all out of state vehicles are being turned away and instate vehicles if they think you are from a known hotspot. If you don't have a valid travel permit or are not driving a commercial vehicle they won't let you through. Anyone know if this is true? If it is, anyone know how long this will be in effect?
 
I’m sure something will be in place that makes sense for NR hunters to travel. NR hunters have too much money wrapped up in Sd for 2 to 3 months -No way SD will turn a cheek
 
State has no say. If it is a reservation the tribe can stop all entry. In Alaska some villages have banned all nonresidents even Alaskans. Some will not even allow out of area workers to fly in. Sport hunting is nonessential. Reservations can make their own rules and often do. That's why you see casinos and cheap smokes on tribal lands, state law doesn't apply,
 
They've been closed since May. Don't see it changing anytime soon. Either drive north of the reservation or drive south of it. They're going to tell you that you going hunting is non essential.
 
Called yesterday the Game and Fish of the Cheyenne River Sioux Reservation at Eagle. Butte and was told that the Res was closed to all hunting this year including Upland. Was planning part of my vacation to Grouse hunt. Maybe next year.
 
Our prairie dog shooting locations are in the Cheyenne, it was an adventure to get in there this year. I did see tons of roosters on our way out of there....the dawg shooting has been better, next year will be very good...very few shooter getting in this year.
 
We got detoured when we got to the Rez. No passage allowed even if not stopping.

The state should close the border for exiting the Rez since the now have 19 positives. When I was there they had two.
 
If it is in the Cheyenne, and you don't have what they deem "essential business", you are likley not getting in, is that I would expect. Not sure they have "permits", I didn't get that impression when I was out there.

Where we hunt is in Timberlake, which is in the reservation.
 
Are there any other reservations in the eastern part of sd that are restricting travel?

Hi was travelling a month ago in RV and they would not permit travel on the SR212 out of Gettysburg. I had to detour down to Pierre and took 34 west. It was a great road and very scenic. I traveled a 100 miles and saw 2 vehicles. Just make sure you have a full tank because there are no services. Unfortunately I didn't see any birds but it was early.

That's the road we took going out.

On the way home went through Mobridge. Both were good choices.
 
I thought I would toss in my $0.02 on this matter as I have a friend that ranches on the CRST and is where I do my deer hunting and a late season pheasant hunt. I spoke to the tribe to see about getting a travel permit and the gal said that I could, but it really wouldn't matter as the checkpoints will only allow travel across if you are from a county in SD with less than a 5% positivity rate in the previous week. I spoke to SDGFP and they will refund my deer license as long as I mail the physical license back to them before opening day of the deer season. This is really disheartening, especially when it would be incredibly easy to social distance.

As for the other Reservations in SD, it appears that Pine Ridge and Cheyenne River are the only ones with travel restrictions.
 
Are the checkpoints still in place on the 212 HW? I haven’t been able to find anything online that suggests one way or the other. Thank you
