Anybody hunt with our have any experiences with upland hunting with a CBR? I have thought about getting one for my next dog but would like to know if anyone has first hand experience upland hunting?

I have raised them for 25 + years. They are great waterfowl dogs and will fill the bill for upland in limited doses. They are big, heavy framed dogs and will get over heated and tired easily in warm weather. If you hunt a fair amount of waterfowl and some upland. They will work fine but if you hunt a lot of upland. I would suggest another breed.

Onpoint

I'm on my third chessie. They all have done a good job but in different ways. They all put up birds. If I was getting one to upland hunt I'd look at body type and coat type as much as pedigree. Plus health and temperment.
But like OP said they are at their best below 40 or on overcast days.

The one thing I would add is that if you are going to hunt upland, put them in the field first and the control in them later. Basic obedience, retrieving, marking and a lot of bird exposure......my opinion

I huntin' buddy has always brought a Chessie along on our upland hunts. His get out front some but don't cover alot of ground and their nose was not a strong point. Great dogs generally and deluxe for waterfowl.

Back in Nov. I was sitting around crying over the bird numbers over a fifth of wild turkey. Decided I'd just throw the dog in the back of the truck and head west to the happy hunting grounds. Got about as far as Russell, the dog commences to scratching and a barking. So I hit the brakes, dog bales over the side. Must of seen um. Great eyesight I tell you, A strong suit. One way to cover ground I guess.

Now that's a good dog and you have good taste in whiskey. Of course, you're a Kansan.

I had a big female Chessy that hunted all birds with me for about 12 years.
Outstanding hunter. She loved the water to the point where She would go to water before anything. Was Her only downfall, except maybe a bit greasy. :)

Good dog though and I Miss Her a LOT!

Greasy? are you talking about the oil in the coat? Most peks have more oil than any other breed ive seen. Its why they can take the cold water so well.

I have a female Chessy I take her upland hunting but she just kind of hangs out with me while we walk behind the EP.
A Chessy on land is like a EP in the water If you want a Chesapeake get a boat! :D
