Chaps vs. Upland Pants

Thanks...I noticed they have a couple waterproof selections on line.

Aren't they a bit warm for above freezing conditions i.e. after a rain or heavy frost?

No they are a bit loose fitting so I haven't had any problems. I even wore them when I was guiding at a game farm when it was very warm during the beginning of the season. I happen to be a heavier fella but I still loved the way they fit and felt. No problems in the heat!

One of these day's we'll have to get our "goldens" out for a hunt.

Was at Traxler's last Friday - nice overcast and cool day. We did shoot their sporting clay course which I found very difficult - can't tell when the clay is coming!

My golden points and he did grab two birds before I could contain him - pen raised birds are quite helpless!

Jon,

I would love to get out with you. Let me know next time you go. My girl was just bred so this season will be short for her. Looking to get out before she gets to far along in the pregnancy. Sometimes the early birds are a bit young and haven't learned the art of running yet.

Hey jon I love those chaps of mine since seamstress Kirk fixed them for me last year.

He's a multi-talented fellow that includes pontificating about anything you want to discuss! Glad you like the sewing job...

I love my cabelas "tin" chaps, they have zippers but are lighter weight than the filson double which is what you have to step up to to get zippers.

I also have Under armour which are really comfortable and great for walking in fields or thinner stuff. For really tough cover they aren't the best in my opinion.

I also wear the cabelas guide pants which I got on sale. They have suspenders which I like more than I thought I would but they are a little insulated and can get really hot early in the year.

Ultimately I think chaps offer the most flexibility during the day and can be thrown over anything to help cut the wind, rain, or coldfront moving in.
