When I'm by myself I use my smartphone. Sometimes my wife goes with me and she takes pictures with her digital camera. The pictures are much better when she uses her camera. If I am just running the dogs sometimes I'll take her camera to get better pictures.
These are very good, but half the time I forget to take with me. I can't leave it in my truck because in the summer time down here it will fry the batterys and wreck the camara. Lesson learned the Hard Way. Batterys boil over and acid takes its toll.
I thought I was the only guy that carried a EOS Digital Rebel.. There are days I focus on my poor shooting skills, and then there are days I take the Rebel. If I get a picture with the Rebel first, and then can still shoot, its all the better.. Its pretty clunky around the neck if youre serious about shooting.
I have a smart phone also, but the quality pretty much stinks.
I also have been known to carry a point and shoot Nikon, but I can also tell you from experience, that I have wrecked at least 3 of these cameras carrying them in the vest.. For some reason, they get turned on, and then the lens gets mashed and wont operate any more..

Smart phone takes decent close ups, but really lacks when there is some range involved.
I bring a camera. I have a small point and shoot that I keep in one of the shells bags that I don't use. I keep a nicer camera in the car to take pictures when I get back. My phone just does not take nice enough pictures.
